I am not a organ donor and wont be signing up for it. Once the government makes it legal for a person to sell their organs - kidneys while alive or let the family get paid for organs used from a loved ones death - I wont do it. Sure I know their would be problems if money was involved. Someone would murder another to get the money for the organs used. However, everyone else would profit from the use of my organs. The recipient because they'll conintue to live and the hospital and staff that'll be raking in the bucks. Screw them.
If my organs are compatible with the people in my own family then they should be the only ones to get them. If they dont give that option then there is no way I'm signing up.

[sarcasm]Those greedy bastards, using your organs to live, and spending countless hours and dollars putting them in. Yeah screw them. Let's nuke those whiny kids on tv who keep asking for 25 cents a day for food.[/sarcasm] |

Like I said in my last post, it is a very personal choice. No one should be made to feel guilty because of a personal decision.

Defining death? Black Market organs? Paramedics killing? Flesh rotting? I have no idea what you are talking about, man, but I will attempt to decipher something from it. As far as the woman who "appeared dead" that's a pile of crock. These were trained paramedics...it has nothing to do with treatment. Is she dead or not? That's the question they failed. It is not a crime for me to say "screw you, Mr.Waiting List, you are not getting a damn thing!" I have that right. And I enjoy that right. It gives me a selfish, self-centered peace of mind and I love it. I could care less if Joe Righteousness wants to picket all day outside my house because I won't give up my organs when I die. Yes, it is sad that some innocent souls out there have bad organs and need a transplant - I cannot deny that. All I can say is allow me to make my own choice and until I feel 100% satisfied with the organ donation process my answer will be NO. Come to think of it AF would be a good place to recruit people to designate themselves as organ donors. Maybe Igor could get a 10% commission off your kidney if it goes to a donor? |

And its not a crime for you to choose to do that. As long as you just accept that you're being selfish, or atleast stop trying to justify it, I have absolutely no problem with it. But if you try and bring medical proffesional's incompetance or conspiracy theorys about rich people stealing your organs, I'll be that much more dissappointed in this forum, the internet, and humanity in general. |

Its hardly ridiculous to be upset with the system the way it stands. Donate an organ but have no say in where it goes? If you're ok with it then by all means put your name down and carve out whatever piece they want. My plan is to take care of my family first. If someone isn't going to pay for parts then they are of no use to my family and wont be getting it. As for the sarcasm - yup, screw them. I know how much effort they put in to help me when I was down and out. But the they will stand there with their hands outstreatched begging for shit when they are in a bind. Nuke the little kids too huh. Feel free to do whatever you want Mr. Holier then Thou. Heaven forbid that not all of us have your sensibilities or your finger on the button. ![]()

I never thought something that to me is very simple could be such an emotional subject.
Im a donnor, I mean what the hell am I going to do with my Organs when im dead? they might as well be used by someone who can benefit from them. Nows here a we bit for those with strong chritsian beliefs who said no because its there Organs, and they dont want just anybody getting them. Under most concepts of christianity you do not own your own body, it belongs to god. He only intrusts it to your care, and can reclaim it any time he chooses. Now Im quite sure that the christian god being the all loving being that he is claimed to be would rather you donnated your organs to others who might need them to ease suffering, than keeping them, and letting turn to rot, or waste. Have a think about it, a very strong argument can be made saying that you should be a donnor, if your a christian.

They should add a "donate for profit" selection on licenses. I think I have some pretty damn good organs, my family may be able to buy a nice chunk of land if go before my time. |

First - I just want to put in a good word for UNOS (The United Network For Organ Sharing).
This is probably the last bastion of TRUE DEMOCRACY left in the United States. It is truly and effectively un-tainted by money, politics, race, gender, or religion. I have no idea where some of you are getting rumors of malfesiance - but it does not happen in UNOS. In this day and age of media sensationalism, there has been nothing to call the authenticity and incorruptability of UNOS into question. Quote:
Third - If you think that drinking, smoking or 'not taking care of yourself' is the primary cause of transplants, you are sadly mistaken. Over 1/2 of lung transplants are to patients with cystic or pulmonary fibrosis (www.ishlt.org). The kidney, pancreas, and intestine are also common transplants which have no relation to poor health habits. I can't find any solid statistics on the web right now, but let me assure you that even the majority of the heart and liver transplants go to people with otherwise healthy lifestyles. Despite the current US propaganda war on smoking, there are a lot of different ways to get sick or injured and need an organ transplant. Fourth - The stupid paramedics in France. Yes, they were stupid and should be fired if the story is true. A couple of things here - 1) in the US, only an MD can pronounce death - the paramedics must work on the body even if it's stiff and cold until they transport to an MD. 2) Even in the rare circumstance that an MD makes a mistake - do you really think the team of transplant doctors will not notice if someone they are working on might still be alive? I think it's far more likely for a person to survive a mis-diagnosis of death if they're immediately taken into an operating theatre with a team of surgeons than if they're just covered with a sheet and wheeled down the hall to the refridgerated room in the morgue! Fifth - It is absolutely your right to keep your organs after death - I would never ask for it any other way. I believe control over one's body, even in death, is paramount to liberty. I just went on a rant here because some of the reasons given above were, I feel, totally unjustified. Sixth - Just to get back to the question at hand: Yes, my donor card is signed. Anthing to anyone who needs it. I obviously will not.

Yet again Fritz's pursuit of rationality and a desire for the truth has shown through.
