Also i heared that single tip is still the best those multi tip and tripple and the new 4 tip spark plugs all suck is this true?
The current will take the shortest path, single tip only goes one place...the platinum series plugs with the 4 tips, only sparks to ONE tip at a time...not all 4. Id say its better to go ahead with single tip...unless your engine is fuqed and you get alot of carbon buildup(which is bad).

Ehh.. it takes me ~6 months to get to 3k miles. Even if it is overkill, o well, they cost like $6 for 4 plugs.

Re: What spark plugs to use

Turbo motors eat plugs, you cant replace them too often. At least pull them out for inspection and regapping at every oil change.

Re: What spark plugs to use

I've got the NGK-R's in and they run pretty good!! Today I stopped to try to find the BPR7ES plugs and they were a special order... I was conned into getting the denso iridiums... under light load I feel the difference but when I boost at like 8+ psi it starts to sputter like its missing...car shutters.
They are gapped at .039-.040 what gives? Should I gap them different?
I've heard and have been told that iridiums are the shiznit...

Re: What spark plugs to use

I think the 2Gs came stock with the 4 electrode (or 2) NGKs. Just use the stock plugs for a 1g, should be bpr6es.

Re: What spark plugs to use

Non turbo is different. But I still find it unlikely. Odds are the gap is not the same.

Re: What spark plugs to use

Most spark plug favor going to NGK is about the turbos, like Kevin said. How exactly did you 'notice' a drop in HP? Felt like it?

Re: What spark plugs to use

Ya i could totaly notice less pull when i floored the car.. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd, then redlining in 3rd I could tell a big difference in the acceleration. A very NOTICABLE one... I just got a set of NGK iX Iridium's , a MSD coil Pack, and magnecore plug wires, ill see if i notice a difference

Re: What spark plugs to use

It seems that, like many issues, there are two camps regarding Bosch Platinum Plugs.

One set of people says they work great and cleared up a lot of hard to fix problems, idling, etc.

The other set of people point to all the incidents of mangled plugs and indicate no noticeable improvement when they used them.

It seems that the problem cases have generally been with high performance engines, and the 'works great' group tend to be on, um, 'less aggressive' engine/driver combinations. (?)

I recall seeing that Bosch platinums were supposed to operate at a lower voltage. If that fixed a problem, then perhaps there was something else wrong with the ignition system, perhaps wires, and perhaps fixing the other problem would allow 'normal'/other plugs to work just fine. Performance engines tend to be more cared for and perhaps don't get to the point where low voltage plugs would show any sort of improvement. In fact, they tend to need higher spark voltages, so...

Performance engines tend to work harder, and perhaps the Bosch Platinums aren't up for the additional stress. But if you don't stress the engine, e.g. no turbo, no WOT to redline, etc., perhaps they work fine, or better for non-aggressive driving.

I'm hoping that explains the discrepancy, and that we can put this controversy over Bosch Platinum plugs behind us.

Incidentally, Bosch also makes the 'Super' tri-electrode plug. This would seem to counter the ability to index the plugs, so perhaps we see another example of Bosch plugs not designed for the performance market.

Re: What spark plugs to use

I have used the bosch 4 before in a NA car and they were great....
I know some people that have tried iridiums and it's about 50/50 as for better and worse.
All engines are different to an extent and will require diff plugs.
I took the majority advice and went with the NGK BPR7ES plugs and I won't put anything else in my spyder from now on.
I put my iridium plugs on ebay to get rid of them..... I should have went back to the autozone and shoved them down that Csuckers throat but shame on me for believing some schmuck!!!!! Oh well.
