Re: GSX Automatic
Ok that makes more sense but besides the launch the auto gsx is going to still be behind the manual because it has less gears right? I've never seen times for the 1/4 of a auto gsx. The only reason why I'm so curious is that I'm too lazy to drive stick but don't want to lose performance

Re: GSX Automatic
There are Autos in the low 10s/high 9s. I believe Kevin Kwaitowski is auto, and russ cox may be too, cant remember.
Yes, Russ COX is auto AWD, 10.1 at 136 (very good ET for that MPH). Kevin is FWD, but cant remember about the tranny, 9.7 at 150. www.dsmtimes.org

Re: GSX Automatic
less gears doesn't matter in the 1/4 mile, with a manual you probably wouldn't get out of 3rd.

a manual will be faster off the line.....an auto will be faster otherwise because of the flawless shifting (unless you are a flawless manual shifter) and a manual will probably have more top end speed.

Re: GSX Automatic
thanks 95_gsxracer
the reason I was concerned about less gears is that the 5 speed has a closer gear ratio which would mean its accelerating harder through each one. But after looking at those et's i'm not as worried |

I'm around 7500 in 4th gear at the end of the quarter Less gears is an issue depending on the torque curve. With a very narrow power band (think vtech) fewer gears would really hurt since you wouldnt be in the meat of the power band enough. And those type of cars with autos are slow. With the wider power band of the 4g63 with turbo, you can get away with it. Add to that the fact that the turbo never de-spools with an auto, and you can maintain a relatively wide power band even with a large turbo. Look at all the 4g63 powered cars with 2 speed powerglides running between 7s and 9s. FWIW, a local girl with a FWD auto 2g was running 15.6s stock. Thats not too far off the pace of 5 spd FWDs. And a half second behind stock AWD 5 spds. Not bad IMO. I still prefer manual of course though.
