I do agree for the fact that its profiling. I also agree that teens are not the only horrible drivers on the road. But again, a bigger percentage of teen's are going to get into an accident as opposed to older drivers. I do apologize for the "more ignorance part" was just worked up over a previous thread. However, 2 accidents in a year and a half of driving? Thats NOT a good record. You imagine two accidents that will set the insurnace company back at say $1500 a piece. Thats $3000 worth of damage in a year and a half. For them to compensate for that, your insurance would have to run $167 a month. And you wonder why insurance is so high. Im not saying ALL teen drivers are horrible, but rather a good percentage. I had several speeding tickets when I was a teen and one accident. Teens usually lack driving experience and are MORE IMPULSIVE, which contributes to crashes. I didn't assume you were going to rice your car, it was on a list of things cops look for. Don't acuse me of assumptions when you assume that I'm stereotyping for all teens.

Apologies 87_gt for that statement, but its all to often today that parents buy parents stuff like that. But do remember, you don't need that power for street driving. It WILL be a temptation to speed. Say that "Oh, I won't drive fast". Then whats the point of building that motor? I would like to see a trap ticket to see what you pull on the 1/4. Not a traffic citation.

Re: cops and teen drivers

wasn't two accidents, it was 2 near misses. one because i was way too tired to be driving and the other something caught my attention and looked ahead just in time. the only accident i was involved in is the one where i was rear-ended pulling into my driveway.

i've only gotten two tickets in that time, too. one was speeding late at night. kinda dumb because i was the only one on the road, but i screwed up, don't drive nearly as fast since then. the other was total BS...loud exhaust. i'm not gonna say that my car is quiet, but compared to the muscle cars that drive around my city on weekends with open headers it's quiet as hell. lots of people i know say that they woudln't slow down if they got a ticket. i have and i think most of those people are lying (i know of at least 2 people that have slowed down since their first tickets).

wasn't really assuming that you thought we were all ricing our cars...just kinda came accross that way to me by the way you typed it...my fault.

Re:

Here are my two cents.
Yes cops single out teens more, I've had cops follow me a couple of times, and I don't drive anything close to a cop magnet ('79 cadillac...Beat up...) I usually find a store parking lot or something and pull off and go inside, Cause 99% of the time I'm not doing anything wrong. If they really wanna get me for something they can pull into the store and get a donut and wait for me or something.

No Teens aren't the only bad drivers, In fact I really don't even think they're the worst drivers, I'm more afraid of someone driving an SUV, cause in my area most SUV drivers (yes I'm stereotyping, it's cause it's so damn common here) are really crappy drivers and don't pay much attention to their driving, Granted I realise it's difficult to pay attention when you're talking on your cell phone and drinking a coffee / putting on makeup.

Cops also target "Ricers" My brother got pulled over 6 times in his car, which had a missmatching aftermarket front bumper, and a kinda noisy exhaust system. Only 1 ticket, the other times Didn't really have a valid reason. After he painted the car to match he didn't get pulled over again.

Oh, and are their different rules for exhaust on motorcycles? 'Cause a friend got pulled over for "To loud an exhaust system" after two hogs when cruising through the same intersection, their exhaust were easily 20-30 dB louder.

Edit:\ Kirkland cops SUCK... Do not drive through Kirkland (WA) If you have a "Ricer" DO NOT SPEED through Kirkland (even 3 miles over!!!)

I'll stop now.

(I've never been pulled over, nor do I plan to until I get my new car)

It's not "Oh, I won't drive fast." It's more like "Dang, can't drive fast." To much traffic. I am gonna do drag racing on a strip (not a huge fan of street racing). BTW: parents do buy kids stuff like that. I talked to a kid today that he said his parents are gonna buy him a car as long as it's under $30,000. Geeeeeeeeeeeez! He must be rich.

Re: cops and teen drivers

so what have we learned...

A.)Teens ARE profiled (Because of statistics)

B.)Every age group has its idiot drivers

C.)Trends (ricers) come and go...American Muscle Lives Forever (yeah, I'm biased)

D.)Cops will tail anyone they want, Don't give them a reason to pull you over...if you do get pulled over, kick yourself in the ass for being intimidated!

Good night and drive safe!

Re: cops and teen drivers

Better than me...They just always like to follow my car...Even my car is stock...and not with really sharp and eye catching color...What I do is just accelerate like mad but stick to the limit once I reach it...

they don't need a reason to pull you over. two of my friends have been pulled over and given a sobriety test when they were coming home at night. they didn't do anything wrong, the cops just either saw they were young or were bored and pulled em over.

so it's not so much intimidation as what mood the cop is in

Re: cops and teen drivers

How about a points system. Lets see for points against me, I have:

A Cobra - 1000 pts
Red - 200 pts
Loud - 400 pts
Loud Music - 200 pts
Teenager - 2000 pts
I Speed - 100 pts
I used to street race - 1000 pts
-4900 points
Not starting out too well.

I've only gotten pulled over 3 times, and gotten 2 tickets in a little under 2 years. One of those tickets is BS, and the other they had no proof of, but I still got screwed.
I have noticed that state troopers are the worst, county mounties are the middle, and city cops are the best at not giving tickets. In my area, some places the cops are better than others, and domestic gets harrased less than imports.

Re: cops and teen drivers

you're lucky...back home the city cops are terrible. you have to be doing 30+ over the limit for state troopers to say anything...my mom got pulled over for going 2 mph over before by city cops...got off with a warning obviously but that's how anal they are

I would definitely tell that cop the F**K OFF and go do something worthwhile like stopping the 1 in 10 drivers that are drunk on the road at night instead of picking on pointless sh*t to make the town/city and insurance companies money. I'd also tell him to go ahead and write the ticket, but you gotta call him a pig at some point. Only if you know everything on your car checks out also, cuz then he'd look for a frayed windshield wiper to write a ticket for.

As far as the profiling...of course, think about if you became a cop, you know what you did as a teen, and your friends...so they already know what you're gonna do from experience.

Re:

In some places swearing at a cop can be translated as assault on an officer. Not a smart thing to do.
