Im from Aus, and i think its a great idea, there are so many P platers out there that think that there the best drivers. Where i live there is a high population of car lovers which just makes the situation worse.
The only reason that there doing is to get you idiot mates out of your car so that they can reduce the peer group pressure.
You know that there will be allowances for people that work you would have to be stupid to think that there wouldn't be.

When you get off your P's and have more driving experance you will realise that it really pisses people off being cut off by a bunch of
fucking 17 year olds in there fully sic commordore

Shoot, I wish we had that over here in the states, there are way too many young drivers that think they know how to drive. At times I wonder how they got their license in the first place.

just my

Signed with comment:
Another pathetic attempt at a bandaid solution for many consecutive governments' lack of adequate driver training. I am disgusted.

Re: If you have a drivers licence, please read.

Taranaki - the P Plate system they propose to apply this ban to has recently been extended to a 2 stage graduation process.

At 16 you can get a learners permit.
At 17 you can get your P1 license (red P plates)
After a minimum period of 12 months (17, assuming to the day progression), you can get your P2 license (Green Ps, my current class of license), which must be held for a minimum of 2 years before graduating to a full 12 point license.

If you applied for your license every birthday, and were successful on every attempt, the earlist you can possibly have a full license is 20, by which stage you have been on public roads in one form or another for 4 years.

Assuming slightly less than average KMs for a younger driver, say 15,000 per annum, the drivers at one extremity of this ban can reasonable expect to have clocked in excess of 60,000kms when they could drive at night.

If this comes into effect, just another law for me to have to break .

wow

It's not quite that strict in NZ but I haven't EVER met a person who has never broken their learners/restricted license conditions.

Apparently it's dangerous to drive after 10PM, even though there's less cars on the road. And it's illegal to have your brother or your friend in the car with you on restricted license - but you can carry your children .

This is our government's ingenious way of lowering the amount of young people involved in crashes, in a country with NO driver training system whatsoever.

Re: If you have a drivers licence, please read.

Solution- enforce 10 PM limit on green platers (Unless with supervisor- someone with a full license)

Go easier on the red platers (Come to think of it, cut that shit out- get rid of the red plates scheme all together- Make the Green Platers undergo extreme driver training and then when satisfied- Full license them).

Done. I'm the greatest.

Oh yeah. Restrict their freedoms as they progress. At the age of 30, you can drive between 7am and 8am, as long as your engine capacity is under 1000cc, you have less than 1 passenger and you travel below 60km/h. Pure genius.

We've been doing it what I stated in my last post in New Zealand for years and it's worked reasonably well (Even though I bended it the best I could- which in retrospect was a dumb thing to do). I don't know how the hell you interpereted what I said that way, but fucking hell- but what I meant is the reverse of how you interpereted it- Give them more freedom as they get more experienced.

Speaking of which CC/power limits versus years in driving is another thing that should be happening- It gradually increases every year after you graduate from the permit by 15 Kw from a base limit of 90 when you get your leaners, until you are 25 and the limit is removed and then it decreases when you get to 70 (Because old people and big cars don't go together well). Would work good in a country like NZ where VERY quick cars are available for VERY cheap.

Sometimes freedoms need to be taken away, especially when given the worlds most lethal weapon.

Oh, raise the age for getting a permit to 17 as well.

Look at it this way- You don't enter a job as boss right after you leave Uni, you start at the bottom, with limited freedoms and get more as you go- that's how I see driving and I wish other people would have that attitude.

Shit, I should so be the guy who makes the Transit laws in NZ.

I think that your illiteracy is what will "jeprodise" your job. Forget driving. Stay home and study.
