I've never owned a 5th gen but I've driven many and so I strongly state that my preference lies in the 4th gen. Its squarish-angular styling is more aggressive than the rounded-off look of the 5th gen. Rounded cars remind me too much of Beetles and MX-3's (fugly) plus the 5th gens are heavier.

The 4th is better in my mind because it is lighter and feels sportier when you drive it. Mostly though in terms of style, I dislike the rounded-off bubble look of the 5th gen because it reminds me of Beetles and MX-3's (fugly).

My moms 1998 Ford Taurus SHO looks more like an egg than the 5th gen Civics.
