well considering that i got the figures from the official website www.fordlightning.com, i dont know how i could be off, and thats ford doing the testing that means they know what there talking about plus they use professional drivers for the test, so until you can show me proof and the source that you got your info from, your magazine is alittle off, and that lightning that you saw must had more than just stock!

ok... here we are.
i know my shit. i dont know why you doubt.

oct 2001 sport truck magazine.
www.sporttruck.com
the cover has a note that it has an EXCLUSIVE lightning vs viper shootout... not bad eh? the viper runs 12.84

two stock 01 lightnings
14.27 (first time at track)
14.20

modded
13.91, maf, chip 00
13.23, nitrous 125kit 01
12.91 150hp nitrous kit 01

this is all on an 80something summer day too..

and, there was a prob with the intercoolers on the new ones, so there was a recall, and they are runnin closer to 13.9 stock now.
and ford lightning.com is a lighting website, not ford's site, ford's site is www.svt.ford.com, which is linked directly by clicking on the lightning after you goto www.ford.com, no numbers there, but they have hp and weight... figure it out that way...
or you can check out www.svtoa.com

truckin also has a comparo
it had two stock lightnings that ran 14.3, which, noted in the mag, was lower than ford had previously found for a time.

why do you constantly think my info is wrong?

the numbers of 360 hp are for the Lightnings from 1999 and 2000, in 2001 they upped it to 380 hp so none of your info is wrong, its just from different years...

tankdawg here's your answer for how fast an extreme is (sept. 2000 Hot Rod) the 0-60 is 8.6 and it ran the 1/4 in 16.8@ 80.6 if you ask me that's pretty shit. when you conciter the price for the truck they tested was about 23k :o that's pretty sad. I like to see them on the street though cause the people who own 'em think they are all fast but sadly they'd probably get smoked by a taurus station wagon as for the lightning they are very quick I saw one run a 13.8 at the strip over the summer it had slicks, but didn't look very modded otherwise, but looks can be deceving(sp)

Do any of you know how good the handling on the Lightning is, somebody was telling me that it has really good handling, but I was kinda doubting that because it IS still a pickup truck, no matter how fast it is...

from what i have seen...
slalom times are pretty quick, 60-0 is pretty good... handling isnt bad... and these are all comments from truckin' mag, from john hotchkis. he would prolly know if it handles good... i would give the reason mostly to the shocks and the big wide sticky 18s...

trucks dont handle that bad...

was that extreme an auto or stick? 4/6 cyl? the 4 is a dog... xcab or regular? those all make a diff...

but that times not far off...

but my 94 s10 v6 stick isnt slow by any means, so a high 15 would be good for mine, but i have different springs...

and, the xtreme (like me) has softer leaf springs, so it really sits the rear tire down so it will spin if the tire is cold... and it goes from spin to wild axle hop really quick...
if you ease into it, my truck, it will light that tire quick and go...

s10s also dont have lsd, which would make a big diff in my opinion...

but even in sport truck's street truck challenge, an s10 reg cab w/ an ls1 w/auto only ran high 14s ish, while a fullsize truck with ls1 and 6spd (reg cab) ran high 13s... doesnt make sense... i think it comes down to weight... too much power and not an efficient means of power transfer... but dont get me wrong, s10s are quick... i have embarassed alot of "badass" cars in a street race... (if i beat em to 40, thats all i meant to do, it doesnt prove much to fly by me if i slow down!!! so if you are ever in cleveland, and line up next to a black s10 with rally stripes, i'll kill ya to 40, or accept my loss i guess... ):licker:

s10 extremes are slow man! i was at the dragstrip and this guy decides he thinks he can whoop my ass so he challenges me. what? challenge ME? in an s-10 with airbags and otherwise stock? wtf was he thinking? people and their station wagon stereotypes i swear! well anyways we lined up and hes laughing at me in the other lane. the light turned green i ran a 12.9 he ran a 14.8, beat him by 2 full seconds and MY CAR WAS NEARLY STOCK!

oh and it was only a 1000ft long track thats how i ran a 12.9, add approx. 2 seconds to get our 1/4 mile times so i ran a 14.9-15.1ish and he ran a 16.8-17.0ish not very quick at all huh? needless to say he wasnt laughing at me anymore when we pulled back around to the pits.

Did anybody mention the old GMC Cylcone, or Typhoon?? They were pretty quick also with a 0-60 of 5.6sec VS the 5.8 times of the lightning. They also had a 1/4 of 14.3 at 93 mph VS the lightning 14.4 at 97mph. I got these numbers from http://www.geocities.com/carspecs/carspectop.html

I think they had 289 HP and 350 ft*lb of torque.

the truck in the magazine was and xcab but the make no mention of the motor they did say that the 2.2 4cyl made 120hp and the 6cyl makes 180hp and that it's the engine most buyers get but as for theirs one would hope it's the four, if it's not then thats REALLY sad
