Point is. If you have a Automatic civic DX, LX, EX with a muffler...your not adding performance, just sound.

Turn that into an Automatic Trans Am or one of those and taraaaa....you ARE adding performance.

An exhaust adding 3 WHP on a DX aint shit.

Why would you put it on an automatic they sound gay. You don't get the nice sound a 5spd gets with a loud muffler on...

added horsepower is added horsepower... no matter what kind of transmission you have. it doesnt make a difference if it is a DX Civic or a Trans Am

A computer can shift faster than a human can. You can program your tranny to shift whenever you want in an automatic. An auto reporgrammed to shift at the perfect time will win if the only difference was a different tranny.

and another thing..no matter if it is auto or not, dual exhaust on a 4 banger is plain gay...are people thinking that if by adding one u get 3 HP adding two would get that number to 6hp?

The way cars are made these days, the manual versions of the car will always be slightly faster than the auto versions. Simply because they are made for daily grandma, shifting nice and smooth.

Only will autos be faster when they specifically built to shift high horsepower, racing machines. (Example: Getrag tranny's and racing torque converter kits) Why do you think most muscle cars are autos? Because they push out so much power, manual transmissions would be inefficient for the application. (Gearing also has a lot to do with this)

As for those all out drag cars, they're auto because "most people" can't shift through 5+ gears efficiently within those -7 seconds the car is actually moving.

For a good example, though they aren't typical muscle cars, take a look at Mercedes-Benz' lineup, and their performance models in particular, i.e: the CL65 AMG puts down 604hp & 738 lb-ft (insane, i know). They're all automatics. You can't even request a manual trans in any of them. Mercedes gave the same reasoning for this as SiGNAL did above; a manual trans just wouldn't work as well as an automatic in this application. What that has to do with the topic of performance exhausts on autos, i don't know, but there ya go.

Man I wasen't exactly stating that autos suck and I just prefer a 5spd. Also you guys keep talking about how much better automatics are ( I guees for high horsepower, racing machines.) But iI was talkig about the little 4 bangers I see around where I live with them little weeeweeee muffler and automatics they sound like shit.....
Also yes I do have a 4 banger civic with dual exhaust on it but it don't sound that bad at all not like most people around here...
