Yea a 185 HP V8 is realy wimpy! My car has a 3 liter V6 and puts out 222 lol. Tell him you'll race him once the new engine is all broken in and use your time to do some bolt on modding (if you have the cash), if not I'm a big fan of strapping on used rockets from WWII!

In that scenario, the Camaro doesn't stand a chance. I don't think they made a Civic Si in 04 though, but even a regular 04 Civic shouldn't have a problem waxing a stock 78 Z28, unless it's a hybrid, then it might be close

It's fairly common (among highschool kids anyways) to buy a cheap old Camaro or similar car without an engine, then throw in some anemic old 305 or 350 they got for a couple hundred bucks that barely runs, and suddenly think they have a race car. In that scenario, I still have my money on the Civic. One kid in my old highscool did this and went to our track, and ran 19.99, he was actually slower than that, but that's as high as the lights will display. This is on a 1000ft track, not 1/4! And no, it wasn't a bad run, that's just all the car had in it.

Technology is a good thing folks.

edit: guess I was wrong about there not being a Civic Si in 2004. Who gives a crap about Civics anyways, eh?

Dont race him you will just lose. Instead get a rocket and strap it on your car like stated above, or you could just get a lot of bolt ons, or tell him because he has a new engine wait until you put your new engine in and than make it fast with an h22 or gsr engine.

LOL

Also why not consider the torque when comparing the 4 to 8?

Sounds like my friend. He's putting a 350 from an old truck into his 86 Iroc Z28. He had it rebuilt though. It's supposed to come to life very shortly, so we'll see how well it goes.

Re: 2004 honda civic Vs 1978 camaro

If they were both stock, it would be pretty close, but I'd still bet on the V-8 because of the HUGE torque advantage (this would offset the weight disadvantage off the line). But there is no way anybody puts a stock 1978 305 or 350 in a Camaro as an engine swap. It's probably a lightly modded 350 (which will make well over 300 hp) or a GM Performance Parts Crate engine, and the least potent of those makes 350 hp, and the most popular is the fast burn 385, that makes 385 hp (although they dyno like 425) (and in that case, it doesn't matter what he bolts on to the Civic).

Re: 2004 honda civic Vs 1978 camaro

hold on, doesn't it depend on the motor he gets?

is it impossibe for him to get a 454 or something in his car? with a engine swap who knows what engine he got right? if thats the case then hi civic might not have a chance unless he's got 10 grand to blow

Don't get out much do you?

Kid buys old Camaro that needs engine. Kid thinks "I need an engine, but only being able to work McDonalds after school I don't have much money to spend". Kid goes to classified adds in the paper, junkyard, etc and snags an engine out of a totalled truck or something for like $300, throws it in the Camaro, and is now broke. No more money for mods, saved for a month or so just to afford the engine. Even a "lightly modded" 350 (headers, exhaust, air filter and maybe a shift kit, common cheap mods for young people) in that car is still gonna be a pretty close race with a stock new Civic Si, and that's assuming it's in a good state of tune, which often these kids cars aren't.
