what happens when your fuel injected car runs "funny"? check the "check engine" codes and fix the problem. How much easier can it get than a car that tells you whats wrong with it? |

or when you change the intake system on a carb it requires a rejet, or that there are only 3 adjustment points that are highly effected by temperature change.

Re: any of you guys ever think about going carbed?
I installed a set of Weber side-drafts on a Toyota 1.8. The 40mm. bores flow a good amount of air and to change main jets takes only a few minutes(probably 2 minutes). I have never seen any other carb that can be adjusted so easily. Well, the jets in the IDFs on my Bimmer engine look pretty simple too. Looks like most Webers were designed for easy tuning. That was the easy part, the ignition system took more time to sort out.
I wired in an MSD unit to the stock pick-up coil. Since the distributor has no mechanical timing advance, I also used the MSD timing computer. It works well, has a start retard mode, and easy ajustability. With the addition of a good header system it sounds good and snappy. With my last project, I went through all the tuning nightmares of programming a d.f.i. system. Once it was all set up and (almost) finalized, it has great power and driveability. For my Toyota project, I wanted to keep it plain and simple. It sounds great, cruises fast and turns heads, not too bad for a jet-ski. ---TEX---

Re: any of you guys ever think about going carbed?
well I was talking about on his d15 setup I read that it was upwards of 17:1 compression.
I don't know much about his F series setup, I have since gotten out of the single cam thing like I used to be. I still love them and I know the potential of them but I like the LS alot and im gonna experiment with it for awhile.

Removing the intake and stock airbox, and putting a hi-flow conefilter on each carb pushed the power up to the equivalent of the FI version... 118HP. then u can do the carb mods for more gains, plus the cam on the ZC is higher lifting on the exhaust lobes... headers and exhaust makes it come alive very nicely... carb mods and extra can be found here: http://www.d-series.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1416 |
