Re: Indianapolis 2002 Ralf and Juan
They are all 1/20 scale. The Williams is the Tamiya Kit and the Mclaren is the Studio 27 MP4-17.
Thanks Chris |

Re: Indianapolis 2002 Ralf and Juan
Juan figure turned out great. Helmet was painted with Tamiya Gloss Black before a coat of Aclad Chrome. The following pictures are the test fit of the Juan figure. The hardest part here was that Juan sits lower than Ralf in the car. The Juan figure required sanding and cutting the seat to get him in the right position.

Hi Chris,
Great models and stunning diorama! I have one question; how was the fit of the MSM creation decals for Montoya's helmet? I want to use them on an El Oso figure and "copied" the decals on some tamiya-tape to test fit them. I just think they will require a lot of microsol. What's your opinion on this? Did you have to use microsol a lot??? thanks! BTW some work-in-progress pictures of my FW24 can be found here: www.xs4all.nl/~dooremti/fw24.html Will be posting some of them here later. Tim |

Re: Indianapolis 2002 Ralf and Juan
First of all thanks for words of encouragement and great looking build on your site!
The decals took a ton of microsol!! I put the microsol on and then place the piece into a food dehydrator for about 5 minutes and this helps soften the decal and make it easy to work with. That proved to be very helpful for both helmets in this project. The decal really does not fit the helmets that I chose. The Juan Helmet is an El Oso helmet that was reworked some. My suggestion to you is cut the decal in half (on the backside of the helmet). I had to do this after the entire decal was wet and took a lot longer. There is a ton of overlap when you do this so it's a challenge to get the decals lined up properly but its better than working with it all at once. Good luck on this and make sure to post some progress!! Chris |

Can I make some suggestions here?
![]() 1. In the closeup pics, I see that the seatbelts are attached to the drivers backs. Probably you did this coz it's a bit more convenient but why not try to attach them where they are attached on the real car. Or are the seat belts the onces that are on the driver figure and you just painted them. In that case very convincing paint job, but then you'd have to find a solution to extend the belts up to the seats. Tamiya has those 2 areas covered in their seats. It's maybe a fiddling, but very much worth the effort I think. Any chance to rectify? 2. A general comment on diorama's - like I keep on saying . You're trying to present an situation that happened, and as accurate as possible, right? With the Kimi-JPM dio you did just that, and although very well executed, it looks a bit cramped. What I mean is, the viewer will have a hard time trying to imagine what was going on. Cars should be part of the diorama, not the main focus. It's the story that is important. So if I would have done the Kimi-JPM dio, i'd probably added a couple of more centimeters (inches?) a about every side. To give a bit more air to breath, you know. Often you see very nice diorama's with very well build models, but because it's concept was a bit too small, it's does not complete justice to nor the models, nor the story that you're willing to show. If you think, that's big enough, add a couple of more inches/centimers and then it will just be perfet. ![]() Keep up the good work!! I love it. Whish I had more time to do diorama's. |

Re: Indianapolis 2002 Ralf and Juan
Juan's right arm looks a bit skinny in places
![]() I just noticed you added the small, roll hoop wing on 2002 Hungarian diorama Williams, excellent attention to detail |

Re: Indianapolis 2002 Ralf and Juan
Thanks..Yea his arm was too thin so I didn’t use it.
The wing was made from brass. Huudo...Thanks for the feedback. I have extended the seat belts like you suggested, thanks for the recommendation. Also, thanks for the suggestion on the size issue. My only problem is limited space to display as well as the limitation of the canvas in this case the shadowbox frame. Due to these limitations I try and choose projects compact enough to fit in these limitations. I do see your point though and will consider it in the next project choice! Thanks Chris |

Re: Indianapolis 2002 Ralf and Juan
Good luck with this awesome project.
Nice start and I can’t wait to see some new progress pics of this project. The Montoya/Kimi diorama is super! In some photos the cars look like they’re actually running at high speed. Brilliant. |
