Re: sentra spec v vs rsx-s vs celica gt-s?

While there is quite a bit of bias and exaggeration in this thread from the Sentra guys, I'm gonna have to say that the Spec V is the best buy. It hasn't had a re-design in five years, it has a clunky shifter, and it's lacking in backseat room, but all of that contributes to its lower price. Other cars you should check out are the Toyota Corolla XRS, the Mazda 3, and the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart.

Exclamation ya

ya you have to go with a spec it's a 2.5 theres more motor for the money hands down. case closed how many drag rsx's do you see very few sr20det and qr25de motors are power house's not a 2.0 ivtec. same thing a wrx and evo is tuned and turbo' ed so if you tune and turbo a spec v you BLOW away any rsx or wrx or evo you can only do so much with a 2.0 unless you bore case closed

Re: sentra spec v vs rsx-s vs celica gt-s?

The RSX is a fast car, and with tuning can have a very high output and lots of torque. But i like the sentra because its a total package, has a big trunk, 4 doors, lots of power, i like the interior and i love the seats. it is just a more practical car for me. Dont get me wrong id love to have a rsx or even a wrx, but the spec v is in the right price range.

Blow up your engine maybe. From what I have heard, the 2.5 is NOT able to handle boost, even with upgraded internals. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just quoting what my friend said about his car. He wanted a turbo but everywhere he looked for info, turbo'd Spec's weren't lasting very long at all.

Re: sentra spec v vs rsx-s vs celica gt-s?

with new internals they can hold some power, but stock they can't. The rods are like pencils, they tend to snap somewhere around 230-250whp, so until you replace them with forged rods you really can't start making some serious power. Once you do replace them though it's all good, the tranny can take upwards of 4-500whp, and after you change out the internals so can the engine. Run a search on b15sentra for a guy that goes by the name of chillboy, I think he's making around 450whp currently.

Re: sentra spec v vs rsx-s vs celica gt-s?

ive seen quite a few examples of the QR runnin around pushin 8 psi and about 270 whp, some for over 5k miles, Not that they will last but who knows. If i was going turbo, id set the boost around 5psi, i wouldnt risk anymore, without some new internals, especially those thin rods. But the motor in general is quite capable of boost, and big numbers.

Seems to me that if you wanna go turbo, it's best to get a 99-01 SE with comes with the SR20DE...slap a T on the end and bam, JDM power

It's not quite that easy.....
Plus the Spec has different suspension set-up, and a few other goodies that you aren't going to find on a 2000 GXE.

Re: sentra spec v vs rsx-s vs celica gt-s?

who would turbo their car and not replace the suspension?

other than that the only "goodie" you're going to find on the QR that you won't on the SR is a HLSD instead of a VLSD. The helical is definitely better, but the QR is also much more expensive to turbo than the SR (at least for big power it is, for small to moderate power it would be around the same price). And the GXE didn't come with the SR, it was the b13 and b14 SE-R and the b15 SE.

Yeah, I see your point.

I actually always liked the look of the old B13's.
Couldn't find one in decent shape when I bought the Spec.
Winters around here just kill cars.
Plus any B13 you could find that was in decent shape was because the owner knew what it was, and didn't want to sell it.

Oh well. Still love the Spec.
May go with a turbo on my project car.
Still have to see about pricing for a twin turbo V8, plus the budget for getting car done just isn't there.

I have read of people swapping the QR for a SR-DET. That just seems like it would be more expensive and time consuming than turbo-ing the QR.

Re: sentra spec v vs rsx-s vs celica gt-s?

Get the Spec V my boy has one and its pretty good. The celica sucks two of my friends have them and they are extremely slow (yes the GTS) id say get a gsr. My stock gsr takes out my boys 04 spec v with intake and full exhaust. And hes a better driver than me.

Re: sentra spec v vs rsx-s vs celica gt-s?

Ask people from the RSX forums and from the Celica forums for more info I guess... me personally, I'd get a Spec-V

I like the Spec V. It's a lot of fun to drive around town, and can handle some track time. In the higher gears it's a bit lacking. The RSX would be a better highway driver or track driver. I have read the RSX has beat the Spec in tests over longer distance/higher speed.

Spec V is one of the chosen vehicles for autocross because it handles nicely out of the box. If you want to get into mod's then this car will get expensive quick. Suspension isn't adjustable; replace. etc. Not sure how the RSX would compare to make it successful at the track.

The question of what is the best car is tricky at best. The question should be "what is the best car for me." To answer that, we would need to know how do you intend on using the car, what type of driving do you do, and what are the weather/road conditions you have locally?

Re: sentra spec v vs rsx-s vs celica gt-s?

the gts is slow. I had a 1st gen rx7 and ate it. One of my boys has a spec v and its fast but the rsx s is much faster and because its a honda it will have many many more mods. thats the only thing that kills the spec v. hopefully it will be as popular as honda cars so my boy can hook up his ride.
