well, I was referring to cman solding his benz and getting about 25 grand for it. Then I suggested to buy a car for 10g and use the other 15g for performance upgrades.
There's nothing like a "3-stage-5g-rule" - it's just reasonable to make a list/plan what do you want to do with your vehicle.

It's necessary to plan which upgrades come next -
You don't buy a giant T88 turbo, big injectors and nitrous at first, hoping your engine's internals will hold it.

I also suggest to set yourself a limit - If you have loads of money to spend on a car, try to make your car powerful but reliable - don't overload your engine, make everything step by step.

Don't aim too high - Buy a nice little car with potential - Nissan Silvia, '90 RX-7, Mitsu Eclipse, Talon, Civic (bah) etc
A 300ZXTT or 5.0s are cool cheap cars but I wouldn't dare to buy one (lack of experience)

at your age I'd say - first comes reliability, second parts availability/aftermarket and third, the looks.

I hope someone agrees

Just search all over the internet and if you want a fast first car go for it but if you havent started driving yet, practice in your parents car hehe! Thats what i did, my first car is my 89 corvette and it is being a real b*tch with problems. Like everyone says once you mod it your in for it, but seriously practice with you parents car because you dont want to get into an accident with an expensive car.
