Ecotec fanboys think that because they have 10 less crank HP that its a good engine, but it doesnt get its max Torque and HP untill a higher RPM band. ANd when your racing what RPM range do you spend most of the time in? low, as soon as you get to high RPMS you shift and the RPMS drop again. So many ecotec fanboys fail to realize this.

Who races in low rpms? The only time you should EVER be in low rpms when you're trying to race(or win), would be the first time you sweep the tach in 1st gear. If your car drops into low rpms after every shift, get a new car.

15 seconds is fast if your car came from the factory doing 18 seconds

I wasn't saying acuras werent powerful, but my friend to me he didnt know what kind of acura it was but he knew it had around 150hp. Also I don't know a lot about cars but would a 2.2L or 2.4L really beat 3.4L engine even though my cars probably heavier?

Who really cares, your talking about cars on the low end of the food chain. What do you people really expect, anything over 14.5 seconds in the 1/4 mile is not fast. If you think otherwise, go to a track on the weekends and watch those cars.

Re: First Street Race

my friend had a 3.0l acura that only had 150hp but the car did upwards of 150mph, took it forever but it got thier, it also didn't handle worth crap but i figured the whole displacement acura thing could throw a monkey wrench into the equation

Re: First Street Race

First of all. I dont really consider that "street racing" if it was just a red light race. Second of all, get a better car.

Thanks for the great advice, you know I was going to get that Enzo at the used car lot, but I was short by about 1.99 Million. So unless your offering to give me money, I don't really have a choice. Anyways, I've just started to upgrade the sound system with some pioneer speakers/subs, amp and a new deck and I'm planning on getting a custom turbocharger from HP Performance, and a computer upgrade from Digital Horsepower.

Most of these people with ecotechs think that the engine is a godsend , and they act like idiots. I do admit that when I drive my mothers alero with a 2.2 ecotec it does provide excitement.

Re: First Street Race

so what is wrong with the ecotec? its actually quite an impressive little engine, and it seams like most people on here are forgetting, i have yet to see a stock I4 that can challenge my grossly underpowered 170hp 305cid V8 in my 3600lbs camaro. throw a turbo and an intercooler on that ecotec with a 5 speed, and i think yall'd have a newfound respect for it. that engine is being used in drag racing and now land speed racing in a modern belly tank racer. ecotec is basicly the domestic version of the V-Tec engine. both are in all honesty quite weak stock. it takes aftermarket tuning to make them wake up.

LMFAO

I'll race you in my stock I-4, FWD, 12-yr-old, POS car, bro...maybe, JUUST maybe, I might eke-out a win.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a former Beretta GTZ owner. The Ecotec will never match the innovation that the QUAD-4 H.O. (180-190HP stock) was.

I can think of several I4 cars that can straight up embarass your Fbody.

Chrysler Lebaron GTC
Dodge SRT-4
Dodge Omni GLH/GLH-S
Shelby Daytona
Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T/GSX
Mitsubishi EVO VII/VIII
Mitsubishi Starion
Nissan S13/S14 KA24DE
Nissan Sentra SE-R
Nissan Altima
Chevy Beretta GTZ
Honda Civic Si
Acura Integra GSR
Acura Integra Type-R
Hyundai Elantra
Hyundai Tiburon
Ford Focus SVT
Ford Focus ZX3
BMW Mini Cooper-S

WRX - Not I4, but still a 4 Banger
RX-7 - Not I4, doesn't even have pistons.

The list goes on...

Yes, but those motors are far from stock... so let's not even open that can of worms. You don't see me going around saying that the motor in my Nova is the same thing as the motor in a NEXTEL Cup car do you? Sure, they're based off the same design, but far from being the same.

Every manufacture has it's version of Vtec. Honda's version just has more name recognition from a few movies, and it they make it seem like it's the end all technology.

Hell, your Camaro has a form of Variable valve timing. You've got hydraulic lifters... they don't give you full lift of the cam till you're at X,XXXrpm till the oil pressure inside builds. Variable valve timing, is nothing new. Honda just capitalized on a catchy name.
