tell me if im wrong but the th350 has 3 gears and the 700r4 has 4 gears.... so you are gonna add a gear and put a taller rear end in your car..... are you going for gas milage?

Acctually, no, and yes. I'm planning to put in a lower gear so I'll have better take off and adding another gear to make up for it on the highway.

for better take off?...wouldn't that mean a higher gear ratio?

Also remember, if you plan to put over 400 hp to the ground, very few stock automatics will handle that power with-out a couple thousand invested...TH400 slip if the power is sufficent...

The tremec (T-56 6-speed manual) are put into 500 hp viper and 400+ power Z06 vette...so obivously, this would be a better trans for an affordable street car project...

What I meant was you can go with a lower gear with a stick because you have more gears to play with. Sure an automatic car with 3 or 4 gears can have a lower (higher ratio) axle gear installed, but a five or six-speed car can go lower. I would not go lower than a 3.73 for an auto because it would wind-out on the highway, where as my six-speed has a 4.10:1 ratio and is quite driveable (2100 rpm at 80mph in 6th).
