Re: "Saving" second geaR?
I know this is an old topic, but I was wondering what the point of putting the car into Neutral was when you already have the clutch pressed in. Isn't it the same thing? Just something I thought of when reading this.

Re: "Saving" second geaR?
when i do this to pass someone, i don't bother going to neutral. i simply push in the clutch, and rev the engine while shifting, and then let go of the clutch after i've shifted and after i'm at the desired rpms. just like OSER
i had no idea it had a special name. i've just always called it Downshifting. |

Re: Re: "Saving" second geaR?
With the clutch in you can not change input rpm, that's how you line up the gears. That goes for a trans without synchros, synchros line up the gears either way clutch in or out.

Re: "Saving" second geaR?
Get a short shifter, new bushings and learn to drive then the only time you'll see neutral will be when you're stopped.

Re: "Saving" second geaR?
These are the directions, I'll bold what confuses me and explain.
1. Push clutch pedal down 2. Shift to neutral 3. Lift clutch pedal up 4. "Blip" throttle to raise engine speed, "engine half" transmission speed 5. Push clutch pedal down 6. Shift into lower gear 7. Lift clutch pedal up Why go into neutral AND let off the clutch, then tap gas, then push clutch then shift then let off of clutch? Why not, push clutch tap gas, shift, let off clutch? What's the point of letting off the clutch in neutral?

Re: "Saving" second geaR?
I thought the whole point was to match your engine to your transmission. I also thought that pushing the clutch in and being in neutral disengages the trans from the engine? Am I wrong? I guess I don't understand exactly what's going on down there.

Re: Re: "Saving" second geaR?
Your matching wheel speed, trans speed, & engine speed.
Yes it does disengage, with it disengaged how do you expect to adjust the trans input speed. That's the reason for letting out the clutch in neutral. Now with our modern cars synchros take care off the gear lining up, that's why double clutching is completely pointless w// a synchronized trans. I would start by reading all the posts same things been repeated how many times? |

What I meant by "not seeing neutral except for when stopped" was you fly right by it shifting gears. Bushings + Hurst short throw shifter = Enjoy...
