Re: speaker intall question

www.fbodymotorsports.com

when i drove down there for my mass parts buy i happend to ask about it. they had two lids when i was there, this was the better of the two, the other one looked like it had been left outside for a while. hinge was rusted solid and the screws were a bit coroded, and didnt know the shape of the speakers or amps, not like im usin em anyway, but im puttin em in a box for safe keeping. but they do have another lid down there probly worth saving. sadley they didnt have the bose kick panels. so im still out shopping for those. id rather use them to install my speakers than cuttin up my doors, but well see. my lid with the wiring harness to the speakers back to almost exactly where my orignial harness was cut was also included, but i dont think the lid they still have had the harness. but if your doin aftermarket installs anyway, you wont need it. ive also seen these lids on ebay. but i got mine cheaper. still gotta look on ebay for the kick panels though.

Re: speaker intall question

naw, stock speakers were either Delco brand, or bose, at least for our years, monsoon came out in the fourth gens. anything other than that, and its aftermarket. i put the xplod 4x6 two ways in my dash and love em. never looked back. and you can even sorta see em through the grils in tehdash pad.

Re: speaker intall question

Are you using the amp to power all 8 speakers or are you using the head unit to power some? Also are you planning to mount the amp upside down on that lid? I can help you with your wire scheme, I am just unclear as to what you want to power.

lol, yea i like the sonys, like you said they match my interior, red and black, have sonys in the side panels right now,6 by 9s, and i was thinkin bout gettin them for my dash or putting the polks back in there, ive heard polks are pretty good too and they sounded nice, i had subs in my rear, i ad a custom box with 3 10in sonys, and 2 400 watt amps, and a ok headunit, it sound kick ass, at the moment i have it in my bronco and ive upgraded to a 1600 watt amp, and i have the sony flip face cd player in there, its sounds really nice, i plan on puttin it all in my camaro when i get her drivin again

Re: speaker intall question

gobears, well i was originally looking to power all 8 speakers on a single head unit, no amp, but found out that id either cook the head unit by wiring the speakers in parralel, two per channel, dropping the resistance to 2 ohms, or id get no power, wiring speakers in series, two per channel giving me 8 ohms resistance. so im looking now at a 4 channel amp, that is 2 ohm stable, and puts out 75 watts per channel at that resistance. RMS. so ill be mounting the amp in the storage well against the wall facing the fuel tank more likely than not. doin my best to avoid cuttin up the original bose decklid, no mounting holes or anything. so ill just have more wiring than i was previously looking at, no biggie. run the RCA cables from the front to the back, then run the speaker wires from the back to the front, pretty much a no brainer, especially seeing as i have the carpet out of the car right now.

Re: speaker intall question

That will work, just don't forget that even though an amp is 2 ohm stable it is going to work much harder to put out its rated power, at a 2 ohm load. In that well there will be no air circulation and the bottom of that well is close to the muffler/exhaust. Almost all newer amplifiers have thermal protection and will shut down when overheated but damage can still result. If you are like me and love your music loud, that amp will get hot quickly especially at a 2 ohm load. If you intend on summer cruising for extended periods at a high volume level, I would suggest a couple of inexpensive 12 volt fans to help draw/expel fresh air into that well or at least to get some air flow over the cooling fins. One more tip, when mounting your amp on that incline, mount your amp vertically instead of horizontally, mounting your amp that way will help the amp's cooling fins dissipate heat. I do alot of installs as a hobby of mine, so I would be glad to provide any help I can.

Re: speaker intall question

yeah i had thought about the heat situation. fans arent a bad idea. that or ill make the amp waterproof and throw a bag of ice on it everytime i get on the road for a long trip but yeah, the heat is a problem ill have to address im sure. especially with the lid on there. BLAST foiled again lol. eh, drawing board is still open. ill think of something yet
