Re: more power for 1999 accord 1.8 vtec

If you want to save money on an intercooler you could try to find a good condition stock one from a lancer evolution, MKIII supra, Mitsubishi Starion/ Chrysler Conquest SAABs etc...

1st and 2nd generation eclipse's have good stock turbos that you could use, but the 2nd generation turbo (T25). You could use a 1G eclipse BOV to save some $$$ too.

Re: more power for 1999 accord 1.8 vtec

thanks for that. What does BOV stand for and my main question is that how much extra bhp can the engine handle without changing the internals? (about 140 stock)

also most of the parts i mentioned are universal so they can fit on any car but im strugling to find a turbo and exhaust manifold. i think i will need a custom one. can i have some onfo in this and any links??

thanks

The manifold will need to be specific for your car, but depending on how much your willining and/or able to fabricate, nothing else is proprietary. If you buy just intercooler tubing, you can cut and connect pieces to make it fit, but chances are, no other car will have tubing enough like your setup to just bolt it on. The turbo can be one of many, as long as it will bolt onto the end of your header, they have different flanges, so that will be a factor. The intercooler is whatever you want it to be, as long as it will fit, itll be fine unless its blocking too much of your radiator, which usually isnt a problem, especially if it doesnt get very hot. I noticed that you said you were going to buy a CAI w/your turbo; I hope you mean just the piece that goes to the turbo intake, becuase the term "Cold Air Intake" is the intake for non turbo engine.
And I see that the fuel management was kind of overlooked after delerious recommended it, but you really cant do that. With more air for the engine, it needs more fuel, even if it is a primitive setup like a Rising rate regulator. I'm sure that people have run without any changes but its definately not recommended, and really its the only reason my turbo isnt on my car right now.
It's really not possible to tell how much power your engine can handle, however I must say; with no modifications except a turbo, I don't forsee it lasting very long. But realistically, you could put out 200hp before Id worry about the stock internals being a problem. Keep in mind that a well tuned engine can put out more HP, safer. If the engine is poorly tuned, it could blow up making another 10hp.
BOV means Blow Off Valve, it releases excess boost so that you dont get too much if you were to shift or let off the gas quickly (alot of other situations also).

If you cant find a manifold for your engine then you may have to get one custom made, and as Buzz1167 mentioned I forgot about fuel which is extremely important. You would need better injectors such as 450cc DSM injectors (from 1st and 2nd gen turbo eclipses/talons) and fuel management (look up apexi S-AFC)

changing the injectors is very simiple, and some used DSM injectors may run you about $100 or less it depends on where you look.

Re: more power for 1999 accord 1.8 vtec

with the new injectors will the engine now handle more than 200bhp safely on the stock internals?

also the engine code is F18B2, so can i get and turbo for a F series and will it fit?

thanks

You can get a header for your f series, and a turbo that will bolt onto whatever flange the header has on it (they have some different types, and youll have to ask whoever you buy the header from, what will bolt directly on.) But you really cant expect to get a lot of preformance without putting much effort into this, you can't just bolt on a turbo and expect to magicially have tons of horsepower. I would be weary of running enough boost to get 200hp w/ just injectors, the car wasn't made for a turbo and you will have to do some other stuff; like adding check valves to get the car to run properly w/o an electrical solution (like an s-afc or v-afc). W/o any other solution than injectors (depending on your ECU) its not really possible to tune the car. But if you are really going to do only a few things, bigger injectors with a new fuel pump is a good start, the car will probably be able to idle them o.k., but I dont know how it will handle the extra fuel when your not flooring it, the ecu will only compensate so much, I would figure out how much you want to boost this car and then get a better idea of the size of the injectors you need dependant on the pressure you want to run, you definatly want to change them(or the pressure) but you dont want to immediately go overkill. I (we) really need a better idea of what you want from this upgrade.
