Transportation Technologies

Beginning in September 1999 the Transportation Technologies program here at Streetsville Secondary School has had the chance to take part in a very unique project that was funded entirely by Mr. Dinner.

We have been constructing a Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Edition. We started with a 1985 Pontiac Fiero 4 cylinder engine with a 5 speed transmission. The 4 cylinder was removed and a V-6 was installed. The computer and complete wiring harness was replaced with the V-6 harness and brain. The fuel pump was replaced inside the fuel tank to meet the pressure requirements of the new engine.

Once the basic chassis was ready for the modification we removed all the Fiero body panels, doors and glass. The frame was then reinforced to prevent flexing after removing the roof. (The roof on most cars is a main structural component to the vehicle. It is like and egg, if part of the egg shell is missing it is very weak)

We then cut the frame of the behind the drivers seat. The car was now in 2 pieces, the front half and the back half. We moved the back half reward 5 inches to make the Fiero the exact wheel base of a Lamborghini. Then we welded the frame in that location. Using steel plates and spacers the frame was welded and reinforced.

Then we lowered the front radiator to allow the body to be installed. After the rad was lowered we installed the body for a test fit. It did not fit. Just like the rest of this project.!.

We removed the body and made many more modifications so the body could fit over the frame. We had to totally redesign the dash area and ventilation system in order for the body to fit.

Once the body was welded into place we then started to make all our own hinges for the different decks and doors. Steel frame were fabricated and hinged then the fiberglass panels were glassed to the steel frame. This sounds really simple but trust me this took a long time.

The body was cut and shaped to match the appearance of the real car. The wheel wells opening were made smaller, the rear quarter panels were totally reshaped. The hood, engine cover and truck were all reshaped and smoothed to fit neatly. (Tons-o-work)

Week after week I sanded this car to make it smooth. Finally it went to the body shop to have the final preparation for painting. This took 5 weeks of wet sanding, priming and spot filling all the minor imperfections in the body. (by this time the imperfections were minor instead of major) I spent most of the summer 2001 preping this body and then it was painted. Impact Auto Collision on Joymar St in Streetsville sprayed the silver metallic onto the car. The paint process was 3 coats of silver and 5 coats of clear paint. This gives it a deep shine when finished.

Surf this web-site and look at all the pictures we took along the way. It was a major project and the finished product sure looks good!

Lamborghini Diablo 30th Anniversary

Just in time for Christmas and New Years! When the perfect blend of circumstances crosses your path it’s time to act. Don’t miss this opportunity!!! How many times have you seen a special edition Lamborghini Diablo SE 30th anniversary reproduction for sale and the seller offered to have it professionally painted in any color you choose as part of the deal? This BRAND NEW Diablo in the color of your choice and without the 6-8 month build waiting period for only $36,400 is an outstanding deal and can be yours just in time for Christmas and New Years if it is purchased by November 20th. This beautiful reproduction features stick shift, air conditioning, power windows, CD stereo system and a nicely replicated tan interior. The chassis is a combination of GM and a highly custom reinforced chassis with the standard 11 inch stretch for accuracy and proper length of the vehicle to the original. Other nice features to this diablo are the custom exhaust, power chip, K & N air filter and Diablo style rims. The engine is a nicely rebuilt 6cyl GM with about 67k on it. All accessories to the vehicle (mirrors/grills/emblems) will be added to the vehicle once it is painted in the color you would like it to be, making this a complete package. This is the deal you have been waiting for. At this price, you could drive this car for 2 years and sell it for the same price you paid for it.They really keep their value because they are rare and in demand. Especially since this 30th anniversary Diablo model is much more rare and looks so much better than the VT model. As a bonus I will split shipping costs. See pictures at http://www.geocities.com/mygeopics/diablo
