i never said the quadrajet was hard to rebuild. i just wouldn't take your first stab at rebuilding a carburetor at a quadrajet. i've rebuilt quad's,holly's,even the ricer carbs on the early sentra's. and actually, i think the Carter carbs are easiest to rebuild, but not a big fan of em

If you know what you are doing with cars, why not try putting fuel injection in your car. Its alot more reliable than a carb and they start up in the winter too.

new carbs electric chokes arent bad.... Seriously my cordia sometimes starts better in the winter than my TBI and my tbi pretty much fires right up.

EFI can be a bitch to install if you dont currently have it. Sometimes its too much to take on and too pricey compared to the price of a new carb.

Re: rochester quadrajet

so then whats wrong with a holly spread bore. oh and incase you didnt read it, the one your talking about also says... "installaton on spreadbore-style manifolds, howerver, requires an adapter plate for proper mounting". im betting that the spread bore would be a better carb than the square bore, and would be more of a bolt on and not require aditional parts.

the adapter is 20 bux at autozone. I sold my old 600cfm carb to a guy with an 83 I think it was Z28 and he reported a gain to me and the carb prolly could of used rebuilding!

Re: rochester quadrajet

yeah, the only thing i like about a holly is that it seems to have a little more responce when you first hit the gas but i hav run hollys, (sguare bore), my quadrajet, and my dads old spread bore holly on the same engine. i would not chose the square bore for anything unless i was more concerned with economy maybe. but even so you can tune the quadrajets to run perfect on the primarys and then still have the big secondaries when you hit the gas. there is a big difference when the seconaries open up. not with a square holly though. if you havnt riden or drove a car with a strong engine and a properly tuned quadrajet i highly recoment everyone should. there is a big difference.

I rode in his car with the decently tuned quadrajunk it wasnt much... now I havent ridden in it with the new holley but from a stop just flooring the throttle it will spin them a bit longer from a stop.

Re: rochester quadrajet

i called a salvage yard today and they have
several tuned port engines out of 91-92 z28's
for $400.00 i can buy the whole engine and
get the wiring harness and anything else i need
off the car to make it run.

where the hell do you live? around here they like to 300-400 just for the tpi injectors plenum runners lower manifold.... 500-600 for the wiring harness and computer with the complete TPI setup.

eh brand new maybe. the engine in my sig was a quadrajet at one time. which i know tbi is cheaper than tpi, hence the fact that it's not a tuned port. but for the throttle body, dist, coil, sensors, harness, and lots of other things cost me $180 used. which is a small price compared to whats sitting inside that block. But i just wanted something reliable and fairly fuel efficient but yet good enough to hold it's own when cruisin. dont really care too much about 1/4 miles times, and even if do go that path there's always bolt on mods.

and imho, anyone who pays $2000 for aftermarket fuel injection is nuts. the holley projection and holley mpi system are a rip off. it's a closed loop system, so you throw engine codes out the window. and they charge you an extra $100 just for an O2 sensor.

Re: rochester quadrajet

yeah i ment new. i have debated on putting EFI on my car. its not built for long cruses, but i sometimes drive it up to where we go fishing,( a 6 hour drive), and we go up in elevation and then my car just dogs down. also i wouldnt mind getting the little amout more MPG that i would get with EFI. i dont think it would be alot cuz i do have my carb tuned extreamly well, well until i switched jets and screwed everything up. do you like the TBI on your car. im not to crazy about it but it would be an easier swap wouldnt it?
