Re: 91 crx engine and tranny fit in 92 civic cx?
Don't people usually do engine swaps with engines that are NEWER than their car. (e.g. a Si engine from 99).

well no cuz the newer the engine the more expensive, old B16a swaps are like 1300 for complete cable swaps, 1900 for complete hydro swaps but isnt the new SI swap run more around like 3k+. or if you already got the older engine... but in this case I dont think its gonna be too easy. head swap would be easiest if it all bolted up
to be legal though I hear you have to have an engine of the same year or newer than your car.

Re: Re: 91 crx engine and tranny fit in 92 civic cx?
Quote:
This being said, Old/Older block = More wear, and rings that aren't in as good of shape. Now, the combination of the newer seals in the head, and the older rings in the block make the compression ratio jump. This increase in compression causes oil to slip past the rings. Oil going past the rings = oil burning. Now, say we have a head with 60k on it, and a block with 58k on it. This combination shouldn't burn oil, because it's really close on milage. Whereas if you have a head with 5k on it, and a block with 100k on it, you will have the situation I just described. Don't belive me? Ask around, especially in the older civic forums, where people have to deal with these issues more. |

the seals in the head dont hold compression genius, they stop oil in the head from getting into the combustion chamber by the valve stems, the valve "seats" are where the compression is held.
theres your lesson

Re: 91 crx engine and tranny fit in 92 civic cx?
umm....i don't mean to interupt, but can someone answer my question as to whether that 91 crx head will bolt to my 92 civic cx block? I'm not worried about burning a little oil right now,.....i just need to get the car running so I can get rid of it.

Re: 91 crx engine and tranny fit in 92 civic cx?
Anything is possible with the right fabrication knowledge and $$$. But it's not very practical. Read the swap guide at the trop of the '92-'95 forum.
