I have to agree with that Luke seems like a nice guy to do business with and I'm getting my springs 100$ cheaper than I would've paid here in Montreal.

$3700??! wouldn't you rather have a turbo? do you have a pic of this body kit? i'd like to see.

well a turbo or DET would cost more and the hp to $ ratio isnt really such a deal... you'd have to keep a low boost pressure in order to keep stock engine internals and tranny etc.. if you replace these things you are getting way into the $5000+++ range. i mean.. look at the JWT Turbo kit coming out (if it ever does) the thing will be $3500 and will only be 177hp to the wheels... add an intercooler on that kit and you're now up to $4500... add custom piping... add blow off valve.. the list goes on and on and you're now over $5000 and still not breaking 200hp (safely anyway) ... i wont even get into the cost of electrnics and even more expensive.. guages...

i mean dont get me wrong... if i keep my car long enough i will get a DET, but theres no way that for $3700 i could have had a turbo. also, once you slap a turbo or swap a motor you have to go through the ordeal of finding someone who's "into" cars to buy your's when you're ready to sell. most people really dont want to deal with problems of maintaining turbos (non factory). i truely believe you have to know a good deal about mechanics to keep on top of the upkeep of a turbo...

so anyway.. i went with the cosmetics for now... $350 for a nismo grill and $3350 for the Impul kit... and unlike a turbo G20... i will be the ONLY person in the North America (or probably the only one or few outside of Japan) who owns this kit... so i went with some unique-ness for now...

you can see the kit and grill here...

Not really. The DET can take a butt load of boost if you have a well tuned ECU. Timing, fuel and air metering are more important but you won't have to open up a stock DET till you get over the 450hp range.

Oh I think you'd be seeing over 200whp with this setup. Remember that 177hp was on a pure stock motor, no intake, no exhaust. Ploink in some 370cc injetors and you can safely hit 200whp. Don't think that a 'meager' 200 hp at the wheels isn't alot. I took a ride in a DET swapped 200sx this feb at saltfest. He probably had about 230hp and it was a hoot!

Aww here we go with that crazy talk again! :silly2:

True in a way. You should alway be aware it's there. But in a properly installed and well thought out turbo install it should be very reliable. But as enthusiests (sp?) we know more about and take better care of our cars than most sane people anyway.

uhm... i've done a ton of research on that and theres NO WAY the DET's stock pistons can handle 300+hp!!! the stock pistons are cast not forged and the piston rings will literally deteriorate when you get close to 300hp... (expensive upgrade) dont forget to grab an hks metal head gasket along with that ($$$)

...and 450hp!@#!@ on that stock lil turbo??? (another expensive upgrade)

and... i wont even mention the tranny... (most expensive upgrade)

you're now up into the $thousands in upgrades on the DET to get over 300hp!

hey dont get me wrong i want a turbo bad as hell.. but i'm just being realistic.. if you want a 250whp G20 with everything included... you are looking at $5000 easily :flash:

I disagree. Why then can this internally stock DE(!) see close to 300 horse power at the wheels! and still be running?
http://www.se-r.net/about/200sx/scc/feb99/index.html
The DET stock internals can take a bit more abuse. Again, it all comes down to tuning.

Nahh we were talking internals. Of course a t25 will never be capable of acheving that amout of flow!

Didn't say it wouldn't. I priced out how much it would cost to safely turbo my G using the F-max stage 2 as a base. I stopped when I got to over $10K Canadian! Taxes and duty are a bitch! That is the main reason my project is on hold.

i'm not sure if the DE and DET have different pistons or not... i'm not saying that the DE would have better pistons, but maybe they use the same ones... that 200sx was running 292 hp.. which is probably the limit...

i have a good GTI-R DET upgrade article... the pics are too big to post here, but basically put when they tried for over 300 hp the second and third rings on the pistons melted to a molten mess. this isnt due to the boost pressure.. its the compression pressure... the cast rings cant handle the compression and will begin to fall apart, the engine will still run but like HELL.. you'll see lots of smoke and burning oil if you upgrade to forged pistons.. yep you can go with very high boost... but then you've got the tranny probs...

anyway.. we've gotten way off point and basically what i was saying is that for $3350 i couldnt walk away with a complete turbo and goodies... so i went with the IMPUL kit cause no one has it... :licker:

The DE has anywhere from 9:1 - 10:1 CR pistons depending on year and domestic market. The GTi-R has 8.3:1 and the BB has 8.5:1 pistons. (correct me if I'm wrong) All are cast. I'd like to read that article if you have a link to it but it sounds a little monkey to me...

Could be bad tuning or a lemon motor...or a badly rebuit motor? Not enough infomation to really tell. Still sounds fishy to me. 300hp to any internally stock SR shouldn't be that tough even at the wheels.

Anyway yeah $3500 for a complete turbo kit would be pushing the limits of your deal finding abilities. I'm mean we're not driving hondas here were I could get supercharger kits out of vending machines.

I think what b00gie meant is that will the car be able to handle 400+hp....the DET pistons are different from the DE as Jason pointed out...i dont know the exact compression ratio, but those figures sounds right. It's a known fact that one can tune the bejeezes out of a SR motor but to get all that power and actually use it on a track can be quite difficult and would lots of those green papers called money.

anyway..b00gie, i called IMPUL again today...same thing they told me 3 weeks ago..."it's on its way"...i SWEAR i am not driving around with it right now the freggin Nismo suppose to be here by now though..."suppose"
as soon as it arrives, i'll call you and ship it to you right away....i was going to open it up,takesome pictures for the folks on this forum...paint it and put it on my car to see how everything fits...hahahaha JK!!!

Jason, I'll email you the article... It's from a Nissan tuning specialist in the UK that deals mainly with GTI-R's and 240sx's....
