It is brand new not reman. I don't believe if you go to Chevy deler you can even by a reman from them only ford and others but not chevy if you want a reman chevy motor you have to go else where to get it. Chevy don't want the headachs. They told me it is easier for them to sell them new.

of course they did!!!! admitting the motor was improperly made, with pistons that are too small for the bores would be admitting fault....

typical dealer response.......

good luck, dude.

Re: 2004 piston slap

I have a 2003 1500HD 4X4 with the 6.0L at about 12,000 miles. I have had piston slap on this engine since I bought it 15 months ago. It seems as though it's gotten a little worse lately as the summer has come in for some reason. I don't think they fixed it for 2003 engines.

Ya I don't think there is anything to worry about on all these piston slaps. They will last a long time.

Re: 2004 piston slap

If you use a thin oil ( I DO) like a Synthetic mobil 1 5W you might hear a little ticking like I had on mine @ 9000mi.. All I did was change to a heavier Synthetic 10W 30and that fixed the noise, now @ 12000mi. its nice and quiet. I had a bottle of Synthetic MOBIL 1 10W 30,Synthetic MOBIL 1 5W 30, and cheap 5W 30 and it was -20 F, I tried to pour them out and the cheap stuff was like heavy honey and gouped out, both the Synthetic oils were the same as if it was 70 degrees out, just came right out like liquid was supposed to. I think the ticking comes from the space between the piston skirt and the cilinder wall, the this Synthetic oils leave a lot of space, where as a thicker oil keeps the space like a dampner. But as far as the "Piston Slap" goes, Never heard it, and will cry if I do. So good luck with everything.

I have a 2000 chevy 2500 which has the "piston slap" but the engine runs great with 70,000 miles uses no oil and pulls a 5th wheel with no problem. So I don't think the slap is a big deal stop sweating the small stuff and just enjoy your truck

Re: 2004 piston slap

I thought the same thing for a while. My 01 6.0 2500hd started using a little oil and the oil was getting dark very quickly after oil changes. At 60k the slap was getting so bad that I was getting quite concerned. I took it to my dealer and now it has an 05' 6.0 engine in it. All of the cylinders had gone out of round.

Tell me that piston slap doesn't cause a problem...
