Thumbs down

you're fucking 15 and are considering driving a 3000gt? WTF d00d I couldn't even get my permit until i was 16, and my license until i was 16 and a half. IT WAS THE LAW! I would fucking die to drive anything like that as a first car. I say you work for your own money and not have mom and dad buy you a sports car. Thats just my opinion.

Re: SL or GST/GSX?

Well i live in Kansas and here we get our licenses at 14.

My mom and dad are not buying the car for me.I have over $10,000 saved up and i found a 97 SL with higher miles (94k) green 5 speed for $6,500.I have the money to buy a SL or GST.I could do one or the other. My question is....witch one.

Re: SL or GST/GSX?

youre not going to really be able to daily drive an 11 second car. Get a dsm, turning ordinary people into mechanics since 1990. How much money do you have? A dsm will be alot easier on your wallet than an SL, just as reliable.

Haha...thats a good question.I work for my dad.I work most of the time 10 hours aday.Plus i dont have any taxes cuz of me working for my dad.I dont ever spend anymoney.I save up everything i get.

Re: SL or GST/GSX?

defmusik...chill out, you don't know him and he never said anything to you, so don't go off on him.. He's asking advice...the purpose of the forum is to ask and get answers, not attacked by other car enthusiasts...chill out man. You don't know him, and you don't know if he works hard or not. So don't make assumptions and then go off on him. I'm 20, and I bought a 22 grand vr4 on my own, worked my a55 off for it and took out a loan that I will be paying off for another 4 years. If he works for what he wants, more power to him, if he doesn't then he's lucky. Either way it's not a question of age, but of responsibility. But don't judge him if you don't know. It makes you look like a d!ck. --just my .02

I agree with getting the DSM. Just bought my Talon Tsi AWD, and I'm pumped.
But it is possible to daily drive an 11 second car. However, you must be mechanically inclined in order to do this, as you will constantly be tuning your car and fixing things (depending on how much you race it, of course). 95gsxracer in the eclipse forum daily drives his GSX with 430 hp, ran 11.84 on pump gas when he had 398 hp last season.

My point is, by the time you have built your own 11 second car, you should know enough about it to care for it if you want to daily drive it. Why would you get a VR4 when the DSM's have so much more potential? What is the fastest VR4 time ever run in the quarter? If it's not below 8.8, that should answer your question.

yes dsm have broken into the 8's but a vr4 can run 11's just as easy or easier as the dsm(since were already 1.5 sec ahead). we just don't go below 10 in the 1320. so to give more advise, if you just want 11's then get the vr4 cause everything you would do to a dsm you can do to the vr4 to get it to run 11's thats not hard at all in a vr4. matter of fact, upgrade your turbo's and run 12's ad b/c fuel injectors, intake, exhaust, downpipe, bov, ecu, racing clutch intercooler upgrade and run 11's

Re: SL or GST/GSX?

I agree that the 3kgt's have a little better looks than the Eclipses, as bitter as I am to admit that . I fell in love with the old style 3kgt's, but the 94 and ups have only improved on the body style.

I guess that an 11 second goal is one that is similarly easily reached in either a vr-4 or a dsm (I believe it would be less expensive in a dsm, but prove me wrong ). I would encourage you to look into the cost of repairing the car and replacing parts for each vehicle though. Remember, twin turbo has its advantages, but it is also doubly costly over the long run. The vr-4 is just a more expensive car to own overall, so take this into consideration in your decision.

*And yes, although he'll deny it, Kevin is the man with all the answers when it comes to dsm's...he was running 12's with $1800 into his car .
