Re: Custom Contest entry: S2000 Fastback progress

Very cool conversion project.

I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Will, you've got some skills! I've never seen that S2000 with a fastback on it before.
But finish the RX-7 I'm dying to see it

A little work this week-end, since it rained out my autocross. Stupid rain. Anyway, it's coming together and here it goes.

1. After boxing in the fastback's shape with plastic (see the first pic in the thread) I filled the corners with putty. That way, I could sand it and would have more material to work with. That worked alright until I went to cut the rear window; the plastic separated from the putty and I had to CA it back together and sand it all smooth again.

2. I added the integral spoiler, and a fillet of putty.

3. Sanded it all smooth and pretty, and laid out the windows and the shut lines.

4. I cut out the rear window. The side window, since it is a complex(ish) curve, I drilled a series of holes along the line I drew for it.

Cutting it all out, done. Not really happy with the shape of the side window, I was hoping it would curve up a little more on the bottom edge. I will probably add some plastic to it to get the shape right, but then, I might not.

The Aoshima S-parts wheels might be too big. We'll see. I'll have to get them in to see to be sure. I probably won't do any work on the bumpers and the like until I get them. However, I am thinking I'd be better off using some smaller wheels (like the stock S2000 of MF08's that come with the kit) to keep with the factory theme.

Another thing I've considered: using a metal gas cap like from the ol' skule days, but 1. I'm afraid it'll look too much like a Viper and 2. won't really go well with the modern trend of the car. It's sort of looking like a modern S600 hatch, just like the normal S2000 looks like a modernization of the S600 roadster, and I like that, so I'll probably stick with it.

Thanks for looking.

Freakin badass!!! Keep the stock wheels!
Your ability to fab up that whole fastback and even cut the windows out is amazing!
Are you going to replicate that blue racing fastback on the previous pages(with respect to paint/wheels/markings???
