Re: The GeoZuki got totalled.....
Dude, go with the geo, way better car, even better looking than the last generation suppositories that they called camaros. More fun too. I ice race them. I don't bother with the gt/gti conversions, just 3 cylinders, set up to breathe a bit, and some proper tires. and a six point cage. My GF totalled my first race car a couple weeks ago, in a traffic accident. ( i leave them road legal ) So I am in process of building #2. Good luck on the new car, keep us posted.

ok i was not going to fight this fight agian but i can't let it go it is killing me insideand i must do something.
i will porve without a doubt that the camaro is a better car in almost every single way than a geo metro. now time for the STOCK numbers 1997 geo metro hatchback (lsi) engine=1liter I3 sohc 55hp 58lbs of tourqe(1.3 soch 70hp 73lbs) mpg= 44city 49 highway seating=4 front wheel drive 1\4mile 19.4?(18.8) cargo volume 8.4cu ft passanger volume 77.4 cu ft gas tank 10.6 gallons cost(new) $8,500($9,500) 2002 camaro (ss) engine= 3.8 liter ovh V6 200hp 220lbs(5.7liter 320hp 350lbs V8) mpg19\30 (18\25) seating 4 rear wheel drive 1\4mile 15.7 (13.6) cargo volume 13cu ft passenger volume 82 cu ft gas tank 16.8 gallons price(new) $18,000 ($21,000 ) |

lol. Well, no doubt a camaro will stomp a stock geo metro. They're at 2 ends of the car spectrum. Econobox -vs- sports car. But i'm not running a stock sohc metro, i'm running a 1.3 DOHC 16v. 100hp stock, (at about 130 before my port and polish is done, 155+ after), 15.3s 1/4 mile(again, before the new port and polish on the head), and only $500 body plus existing motor. Plus it's cheaper to insure, and much better on gas (for those $3 prices we're gonna get soon). Sure, it's more work, and a scapegoat car, but hey, it's what I like to do. And i've never seen a v6 camaro beat 16s in a 1/4 mile, lol. My buddy had a 2001 3.8L, and with a cold air intake, exhaust, and lighter rims, he ran a 16.4. His old auto ran mid 17's. No doubt, i love camaros. If I could afford one, i'd be drivin it! But a poor man's gotta get his kicks somewhere, and for me, it's the Geo. The suspension I have will also pull .94g lateral acceleration. Which is a wicked handler. FWD is also better for autocross. Point taken about the camaro being a better sports car. An SS also will run wayyy over $22,000 for a used one. A convertible will be more in the lines of $31,000 used. Basically, in BMW price rance. And the part that is most important to me is this..
mpg= 44city 49 highway not mpg=19\30 (18\25) My GTi motor is rated stock at 26/39 on the sticker. I looked it up, and in order to get a Camaro SS in the 12" 1/4 mile range, I'd need a $9,800 supercharger, $5000 trans to hold up to the torque, (SS already has LSD diff) and $600 for better tires. In order to get my metro into the 12's, all I need is a $1600 turbo setup, $50 copper headgasket, $1200 Limited slip diff, $500 for better rubber, and some spare time. Not to mention the 1.3L DOHC has a forged and balanced crank(cast iron in the pushrod chevy 350) , a DOHC pentroof hemispherical 16v head(chevy pushrod 8v heads on SS), and the entire car only weighs 1800lbs. Half the weight of a camaro. So that would mean, if I was running 150 wheel hp@1800lbs, and the camaro was pushing 320hp@3500lbs, means I have 12lbs per HP, and the camaro has 11.875. So my lightly modded metro is almost equal to the SS in power/weight. Which would bring me to an estimated 1s slower in the 1/4 mile. Now, add the turbo, lightened flywheel, under-drive pulley, MSD digital ignition, and a AFM modulator(way less than 1yr of insurance payments on the camaro), I could be pushing 240whp. Which would bring me down to 7.5Lbs/hp. Now, if I add the same 90hp to a camaro, it's weight is the downfall. Cause that 90hp brings it to a 8.5lbs/hp. And the mods alone for the 90hp on the camaro would set me back $4000, or the metro's which would be a max of about $2000. A camaro is more of a rich man's car. People can drop 10k into a camaro, and get it running 10's. If I took my $500 body, and about $500 motor and such from my metro, i have $1000 total invested. $20,000 short of what I was gonna spend on the camaro. So if I was stupid enough(yes, i said stupid. Who would invest that kinda cash into a Metro! lol.)to put $20k into my vert, i guarantee it wouldn't be street legal anymore, and prolly break 10s easily. Long story short. If I had $20k at my fingertips, hell yea, i'd get the camaro. But I don't, and don't forsee it in the near future. So the metro it is. And no, i don't plan on making my car a big sponsored race car. It's gonna be my daily driver that I can have fun with. And make fun of the kids in their $20k cars when I tell em they got smoked by a Metro. I bet they didn't see that coming ![]() Oh, and the engine isn't a Geo Metro engine, it's a 91 Suzuki Swift GT engine |

Re: The GeoZuki got totalled.....
Hey, come on, there is no comparing the two, and besides, at no point did I even attempt to say that the geo is a better sports car than a camaro, I merely seiad they are better looking. And more fun for the dollar too. If someone who needs a prosthetic ding ding sees fit to trash talk the geos, ok, thats cool. You aren't a Geo fan, I'm not a camaro fan, it happens. I appreciate the time and energy that goes into any custom vehicle, having built more than a few in my time. So, go with whatever wets your wheaties.
Otherwise, like I said, I use them for ice racing. This is another venue, like autox where bigger cars are no good. And, its not about power, its all about traction out on the lakes. You can have 1000 hp if you like, try and hook it up, I can guarantee, its not going to work. On the ice, its not the size of your pencil that counts, its how you sign your name. The musclecars are great if you're cruising for lot lizards, or tire biters, or whatever you like to call the pneumatic young things that go after the guys that drive those cars. I'll stick with something that is somewhat practical. Both you guys make lots of good points for your own cars, and more power to you. On the other hand, this is a Geo forum, and people here own and drive geos. Funny how that works. Bet people at the camaro forum own and drive camaros. I am seeing a connection here. Anyway, rather than trash talk other people's rides, take time to appreciate what goes into them, and what comes out in the end, and keep up the good work.

Re: The GeoZuki got totalled.....
ok lets think about it this way the geo pumps out lets say...oh..250hp out of a 1.3 liter. there are sevral unreversealbe probloms that the geo has
1. front wheel drive, when you floor it all the weght is shifted to the back and away from the driveing wheels (wasted power) 2. very small engine, look at champ cars they have 2.5 liter engines and pump out 1000hp but only last 1\3 of a sesion. Alsocars that produce too much boost (3000gt) do not last long 3 looks, everyone has there opinion on looks but most people do not think the geo is a sporty looking car |

Re: The GeoZuki got totalled.....
Hey, did I say it was sporty? no, i said its better looking than the last generation camaro.
As far as your other arguements, keep trying, eventually you will see that its ok if you win, just like the special olympics, everyone gets the gold. Take care |

He lives in Adrian, MI. He could probably ship it, but it would have to be crated. It also has the auto tranny, wiring harness, and computer.

hey man! yes, lesson learned.... never let a woman drive a fast car. i learned my lesson three years ago when my g/f ran my 69 pontiac into a concrete pillar (the ones beside gas pumps) and mangled my chrome bumper. i was huge mad. she lied to me about it too. she said someone hit in in the parking lot, but i called her bluff when upon inspection of the dammage. therewas still that easily recognizable yellow warning paint still stuck to the chrome. but, i will have to say in your case, its a blessing that your g/f didnt die. cars can be replaced and true love cant. thats what i think anyway. yeah, i know its sappy, but im sure your girlfriend learned her lesson. mine did. she doesnt even touch the pontiac after i showed her what it would cost to fix the dammage....
