Re: What AWD cars are out there?

OZ Rally Lancer is not AWD.

You might also consider Subaru STi. Or Dodge Neon. Or Audi A4's. Or Infinity G35.

***edit*** Dodge Neon is on the list because you did mentioned FWD thats below $22,000.

Re: What AWD cars are out there?

There are reasons that somebody would think that "Lancer" means "the fast one." Mitsu of America tried to trick us with that one.

For you? I would go with a Subaru 2.5 RS. Good intro to AWD and cheap, now that the WRX has shot the 2.5RS's resale to hell. They have 2 door and 4 door versions as well.

Sounds good...

After researching potential car purchases over the last month plus, I came up with a list of buys.

Mazda3 5-door
Toyota Matrix AWD
Subaru Impreza TS Wagon

The only non-awd car is the Mazda 3 series (the new one, although I've heard about the older 323 GTX version ). I'm interested in the car because of how well put together Mazda is making that model stand out. (Two words: sequential shifting.)

Getting back to the AWD debate, my purchasing power could either go to the Toyota Matrix or the Subaru Impreza wagon. The only thing discouraging me from a WRX wagon is the premium fuel requirement to drive it (Pennsylvania prices are nothing to shake a stick at) and the sticker price. But then again, to be quite honest, the money being poured into it for the turbo gives you a factory-warrantied unit. What more could you ask for (except more power )?

The Toyota Matrix is my last choice, slotting in between the Mazda3 and the Subaru in price. The AWD drivetrain is available, but 123 horsepower leaves a lot to be desired.

None of this will go down, of course, without a bump in my pay (which I am working on at the moment). Then, when that goes down, it may ultimately become a decision between Subaru power and Mazda value.

I still can't rule out the Matrix. Supercharger please?

Re: What AWD cars are out there?

AWDreport.com lists all the cars and some crossovers that are awd or have awd options.

Re: What AWD cars are out there?

No respect for the poor 05+ Legacy GT nor Outback?

Also if you are looking for an AWD car that is below $20k new there is always the Suzuki SX4. And if you do not care if it only comes in automatic you can always get a used Subaru SVX, might not be as quick off the line as a 3000GT VR4 but has been proven to be just as fast around a track and better in snow.
