Re: free timing chain/gear set for 3.8 Camaro

*bows in humble admiration*

dude, your rediculous. i did catch the deal with the "distributors" before, i assumed you were running dual magnitos. not a custom built and mounted bimmer V12 in a 68 camaro. i mean geezus, thats friggin awesome. you never fail to impress me. as far as the victor jr, TPI deal. dont forget about the ACCEL super ram, with a larger plenium and shorter runners. extends the powerband of the tpi setup to 6500rpm, and adds 50+hp to a stock engine. or so i have read. as far as my body repairs, havent had the time to look at her yet, shes just sittin in the carport. she still drives just fine, so im not really worried bout the bodywork, im more focused on how im gonna get all the new parts put together, get her legal, and registered, im runnin out of time. so thats the priority. ah well, such is life eh.

Re: free timing chain/gear set for 3.8 Camaro

Sitting in the car port eh? That sucks, having to look at her every day. I guess you're lucky, it could have been worse.
I forgot about the SuperRam. Those are sweet too. I heard they work really good when used w/a Paxton. I just figured the modded V.Jr. would be cheaper. There's nothing worse than having to program the ol' e.c.m.
I guess I've watched too much American Chopper, I really like making my own stuff. I can't wait to start laying up my own carbon fibre body panels (I hope).

Re: free timing chain/gear set for 3.8 Camaro

It runs as it sits. I connected a radiator and let it run for about 1/2 an hour last weekend. I made some jetting changes to flow more juice. Maybe Bartonek will post a vid clip of it shooting fire from the head ports. I could adapt the 6-71 to the top but the thing would be as high as the roof of the car, I just thought it would make for a good pic.
Thanks everyone for the cool responses!!!!!

Yes, Hypsi87, I still have the gears. Send me your address and phone# and we'll get the ball rolling.

What kind of stuff you lookin for, Vlad? Your parents aren't too far from here, something like 2 1/2hr. drive. I lived in Austin for a while, seems like there was some race track in Waco that all the peeps went to. Where are you from anyway (f.m.i.)?

I expanded the back of the shop to keep my good junk out of the weather. I should have made it bigger cause I still need more room for my projects and spare parts.

Sounds like the Bimmer is a hit, eh? I wasn't sure how people would react to it but so far it things look pretty cool. I know a few dudes that think I am crazy (or stupid) for putting this combo together. I guess it's just jealousy, they never have anything good to say
anyway.

Gotta split. It's late and I haven't toutched the Camaro yet today. I have a few things to finish up and the clock is ticking.
Later bros,

By the way, what is a pair of Lingenfelter IROC heads worth?

Re: free timing chain/gear set for 3.8 Camaro

?????depends, what are the flow numbers on those lingenfelter heads?? port sizes, valve sizes. aluminum or iron? yadda yadda. im assuming these are from your buddies IROC that got ran over by the tractor trailer.

but yeah, the bimmer in the camaro is a hot idea. i mean, dont get me wrong, id love to see a ZL1 based 427 in there, but eh, im also a fan of ingenious ideas. which you seem to be full of.

Re: free timing chain/gear set for 3.8 Camaro

The IROC heads look like a pair of plane-jane iron castings that had some mild port work. Valve sizes? I'm not sure, probably 1.94s. Flow #s? Your guess is as good as mine. I guess they might be worth something to someone who was building a Lingenfelter clone.
I agree, there is nothing like the rumble and torque of a big block. I wedged a 505 into a friend's 84 Camaro drag car. T.H.400, Ford 9", sheet metal dash, 3 1/2" dual exhaust, etc... That m.f. was quick and brutal, but it sure felt heavy.
I was concentrating on keeping everything clean and light. I need to weigh the (aluminum) engine and compare it to an iron small block. The trans is aluminum and the clutch/fly wheel is minimal. The suspension is Vette stuff and I hope to make a lot of the non structural body panels from carbon fibre.
What ingenious ideas have you come up with? I have a few Ford friends but they seem to have a narrow focus. The Chevy dudes I hang out with seem to have the brains.
What does this have to do with a timing chain anyway?

Re: free timing chain/gear set for 3.8 Camaro

Tex,

yeah my parents moved to Magregor a few years ago while I was in the navy.
I got out in 2000 and meet they love of my life. long story short I moved here to Austalia... going to be here a loooong while before the mum-in-law buys the farm.
So I'm really from Houston but my parents moved so I just have to try to keep up with them while I was out to sea.
As for the bimmer being a hit I'd say hell yeah bro... I have to agree with Iroc I love the 427 BB but when someone comes out with a sweet ass different idea I'm all ears.
As for them ppl that aint got nothin good to say.. fuck em... they're just sheep that follow not ppl who lead.

As for what I want and need... well where the hell do I start I need to set my ute up for a dialy driver that has a great passing gear gets ok gas milage and dependable. I was thinking getting a LT1 or 350 TPI and a 700R4 for about 1000- 1500 and shipping it over here but just gotta get a hold of one. I know everyones says e-bay but a bit weary since I'm waaay over here.

Re: free timing chain/gear set for 3.8 Camaro

Tex - yeah, better off selling them to a person building a clone. ill stick with my modded vortec heads. came off a 99 tahoe, gonna have them ported, polished, three angle valve job,2.02in and 1.6in manley race flo valves, thermal coated combustion chambers, thermal coated valve faces, thermal coated exhaust port, bronze valve guides. beehive springs, not sure exactly how much power all that is worth, but should be around 40-60hp.

vlad - rough deal about the mom in law deal, im assuming you dont like her none but for EBAY, just stick to sellers with good prices, and high positive feedback ratings, like 95% and up are all i seriously look at. especially if i cant see the items before i buy them.
