if i am given a shitty present, I politely say thank you and that it's good. Then come next christmas, i wrap it up and give it to them back. Hey if they thought it was a good present to give, why not receive?

i'll usually try to get it exchanged...i mean, especially with an article of clothing, the person who gave it to you will notice if you never wear it...so if it's not to my liking, or doesn't fit, or i already have it, or anything else like that, i kindly ask for the gift receipt. it'll make them even happier knowing you ENJOYED their gift rather then just stuffing it in the closet somewheres.

Re: When you get a present you don't like, do you tell them?

Thats exactly why if on the rare occasion I get someone a gift "other than my son" I just get them a gift card at a place I know they like to shop. I make this perfectly clear to people who usually give me gifts for x-mas that if I want something I buy it and they just as well do the gift card thing or give me cash. But yeah I'm with the majority if I get something that sucks I say "oohh I love it... it's great.. and thank you. After all it "is" the thought that counts.

I totally agree with you. I have a real hard time telling people that I don't like it. I always feel really guilty as I know that they've probably put a lot of effort into finding something that they think I will like.
