Neons are pretty fast but you should beat em by more, I have a civic si99 and I beat them by around 5 cars up to 150 kph 93 mph. 0-93mph beat em by 5 cars, my best friend has a neon so ive raced him a lot.

I believe that in 2001, they also had an 2.0 Liter SOHC Magnum, which had something like 150hp/137ft-lbs. bone stock.
If by chance he has one of those then I'd say you did pretty damn well. If he has the base SOHC engine, then what you said happened sounds just about right...  nice kill...
