Re: WTB another car
yep watch out for that crankwalk. I have 117,000 miles on my 97 gst and never any signs of it. The biggest repair I had so far was my clutch(3rd one yet). I just put in my $100 14b first gen turbo and kicking out about 300+hp. There are so many diffrent stories about 2gen dsms. But in my case the only problem I have is the $417 a mo. insurance.

Re: Re: WTB another car
get a turbo KA into a old 240z, that would be pimp haha. SR is over rated and expensive. Everyone just says "ya get a SR" like its the solution to all your performance problems, and they don't even know anything about it to top it off LOL.......

Oh yeah and Ecotec, the KA that SR20DET is refering to is the stock engine in the 240sx......2.4L DOHC that puts out about 155 hp.

a turbo KA will spank the pants off a SR in drag racing. Mod for Mod the KA will produce more power, and have more broader, higher torque band. Maybe its the added .4L of displacement, maybe its the KA DOHC excellent flowing head..... all I know is they are faster, and can handle just as much power if not more. They use a Iron block over an Aluminum block, have a longer stroke, long rod, forged crankshaft, forged connecting rods, pistons are the only real weak spot and even in stock with good tunning it can see 350rwhp+. I have only heard of one, maybe two SR's that put out more then 700rwhp. I know of a few KA SOHC's used in drag racing applications that put down 750rwhp+. I think its a good engine for drag racing, its ok for track racing with a couple valvetrain goodies...
People just think JDM is good, its what all the japs use. They only have the SR20 motor over there, everyone thinks thats what all the top S chassis tuners use so the KA must be crap and swap it out for a SR. This is some pretty dimwit thinking once you know some stuff about the KA. I like both motors, they both are good in their own ways. i just hate it when people think the SR is the only good 4 banger from Nissan. In fact with less money, slapping on a turbo to your KA24 will smoke the shit out of a SR swap. Most SR swaps range above 3k+usd when all said and done. For an easy 2k you can turbo your KA, sometimes way less, depends on how you want to do it. Most stock SR swaps make 185rwhp, most basic KA turbos make 220+rwhp..... think about it lol |

Re: WTB another car
Find a KA24 and a 70's 240z. Would it be a pretty easy swap compare to the v8 or the sr20? And the 240z's way what a mear 2350? Plus the weight of me. It would be a pretty fast car.

Re: WTB another car
Damn, Ohio's a bit far from northern california...
I'm not sure how easy a KA into a 240z would be. There would probably be quite a bit of computer rewiring type stuff, which would make it harder than your average honda swap. You might have to change more than that as well. SpyderEclipse: How many tickets have you had??? |

If you're thinking about doing the KA24 swap, you'd better get cozy with a welder and some steel, because there's no available kit for such a swap.
And, as Spiff said, the KA is computerized. Unless you want to tweak a magneto ignition system and use a dual-Weber carburetor intake setup on the engine, it'll be insanely difficult to just get the engine to run properly in the 240Z's engine bay. Now, by comparison, the Chevy V8 swap is relatively painless, offers a substantial gain in power over the 150hp straight-six, and can be done on the cheap. http://www.gmpartsdepot.com/store/pr...Product_ID=962 Available at the above link for $3,569, turn-key minus carburetor, producing 355hp and 400lbft of torque. That's for a brand-new engine with aluminum intake and cylinder heads. Figure since an all iron small-block weighs in at 575lbs, it'll weigh 490 with aluminum heads and intake.

I like the KA but didnt sugest it because why is he going to buy a kA then have to spend a few grand for a turbo kit. The SR will be cheaper and will have the power he wants. If he already had the KA then I would say keep it but he dosnt. Also he would have to pay for most of the labor because he does not know alot about motors. So turboing a KA would just be to much work for him.
