Off Topic Problem

well said blue boost, it was just a suggestion, im not whining about it. Its not a big deal if there is no off topic area underneath car modeling.

I have to agree with freakray. What it boils down to, and what people forget, is that this is a model section of a car website. I don't really venture out much into the rest of AF, I don't have any real desire to. But I have made some forays into the rest of it, and from what I've seen its every bit as pleasant and accepting as in here, plus I see a ton of familiar names just about everywhere. If you want the people here to see what you've got to say, go say it where its appropriate and the people who want to see it will. If the people you intend to see your post, the people from the model section, see your post and enjoy it, then hooray! you're sharing with your friends. If others read and enjoy your post, hooray! you've made more friends. I don't see the problem with that?

There are currently over 1000 forums and sub-forums. The AF Car Modeling forum is just one subcategory among many.

Please feel free to use any of the forums of AF, but also please remember that you must follow the AF Guidelines in all forums. Sorry to say it, but if you get banned from AF, even if it's for something you've done outside the model forum, you'll be banned from ALL of AF, including the model forum.

The Car Modeling forum exists as a sub-forum of AF. It is a forum created for AF members to discuss their scale models. All members that use this forum are AF members, not AF Car Modeling members, regardless of whether they use the rest of AF or not. That does not exclude them from the guidelines of posting threads in the most appropriate forum.

You will notice, when threads are moved, a redirect link is left, so it's not like we hide the thread altogether in the depths of AF.

That said, I think you'll find that we allow quite a bit of deviation in many threads, as long as the overall thread topic relates to Car Modeling. In addition, there are certain "official" OT threads (such as "Real Name and Age") and there are posts relating to OT threads in the FAQ.

It is our intent to provide a forum where information regarding the hobby can be freely discussed. To that end, we try to ensure that the information be well-organized and easy to find. This is one of the reasons for the FAQ threads as well as the threads that get posted to the top of the forum as "important." This is also the reason that some threads that are off the topic of Car Modeling in particluar will get moved to other forums.

A 'historical' footnote: For a while we had a web-based chat room designated for our (the AF Modelers) use, but it has since been closed.
Perhaps we could persue this channel again in the future?
Perhaps KitKarz/PASB will again invite us to use his Modeling chat room, where I guarantee you'll meet many, many new modelers.

Use your Ignore Lists.

Ignore lists are used for those people whose messages you wish not to read. By adding someone to your ignore list, those messages posted by these individuals will be hidden when you read a thread. You will also not see Private Messages from these users.

If there's another member that you don't like, or if they just seem to rub you the wrong way, put their username in that list.

I have just posted as complete an explanation as I can as to why we don't have an Off-Topic resource within the Modeling forums. If any member would care to post a rebuttal, or any type of logical argument for the contrary, I'd like to leave the floor open for that.

However, the posts in this thread are already far too close to being the type of 'offensive' that is going to get people in trouble. Use your Ignore Lists. And if you're here just for the pissing match, go ahead and click here. I don't want to see any subsequent post so much as rhyme with a personal attack...

Well, I was looking for an explanation to previous statements that were made, but some people seem to think they are above that.

I don't see that there is a reasonable rebuttal to your previous post though Jay, it is pretty well explanatory, sans pictures that is, so I am sure any educated person will be able to understand it.

In all honesty, I think everything is fine the way it is. So what if you have to make a few extra clicks with the mouse to read about video games or Skylines ? It won't kill you. I frequent a few of the other forums, and I don't expect threads to placed in the Car Modeling forum just it's the one I visit most. So what if all of us are close knit? You don't go to school and keep to yourself, you go meet people. Don't whine about threads getting moved ! As Jay posted, it's in writing, so maybe you need to read the FAQ. Ranting complete. Yep, this is stupid, yeah you might want to spread the word on some things to the people who don't get out of the Modelling forums but there is no need to take up more room on the server because your too lazy to goto the off topic section that is already in place.
I can see the majority of the people voting for a lounge in here have only joined this year. You'll eventualyl get out of these forums, it took me awhile to get out of the modelling section, but I survived. I think that we could stop all of these stupid topics being posted by a model mod putting a new section in the FAQ about off topic discussion where it should not be, here. Provide a link to Coffee break, tell what it is for, explain that off topic threads will not be tolerated in the wrong forum, and that gets it out of the way. While they are at it they could put something in about Antonios thread, too much BS.
As Antonio has already said, we have lost a few top notch modellers because of the stupid things that go on in here.

There is already a games section with a huge community of visitors, including people from the modelling section, that frequent it, they are all passionate about the games like you, why not visit it and get to know them and share with them.

There is already an Off Topic section to AF, it is called Coffee Break, you're all welcome to come over there and join in the general daily banter and jokes that happen there.

I go to the coffee break often ,I see a lot of familier names there
its a good laugh, keep the modeling forum for models, as you say the other topics are already here

I was telling Jay in another thread that I go to nissanforums for anything car related besides modeling, perhaps thats why I don't venture out around here too much. But I do understand this is a SUB-forum in itself.

There is no reason to make someone feel unwelcome or flame them for it. Just as Jay was saying about the rude comments lately -We should all have some more patience. Myself included.

eventually... about everything modeling related will be covered, but then what? does this become a library of posts instead of a forum where we can come and discuss things and enjoy each others thoughts and ideas?

If you read the WHOLE thread, everything was great until I disagreed with you on some matters and asked for clarification on others.

Everything model related will be covered, but you can never say this place will become a library.
There will always be new members with different questions, not every scenario can be covered in the FAQ so there will always be a need for a forum to seek help and discussion.
