Im not talking about a small gap, im talking about a stock gap.

My whole point is that a stock ignition is fine and only worth a coil, wire, and plug upgrdade if anything. A COP conversion will yeild no gain in efficiency, power, or cost. The stock conv. system is perfectly fine for any performance upgrades you might want.

Re: Has anyone done a Distributorless Ignition Conversion on a B-series Engine?

I used the small gap as an extreme to make my point easier to illustrate.

Ahh, now I see exactly what yer gettin at. I still disagree.

First of all, I believe you will see an obvious improvement in performance with an ignition like a Mallory Hyfire IV #685. More than you would see with a coil, wires, and plug upgrade, on a 94+ Honda/Acura.

Second, a COP system is not only far superior in performance, it's less maintenance, less suseptible to malfunction, and will allow for more radical and accurate spark timing.

Stock ignitions are fine for stock cars. I think it's subpar for a 12.2 compression, high performance motor. However, unless I spring for an EMS, I can't yet see a good way to get out fron under my distributor.

BTW, I'm not just referring to COP ignitions, I'd take a regular 2 or 4 coil DIS like you see on many newer cars. I'd still add the Mallory tho.
