Re: Rusty 2000 STS

Oh and also, now this is common sense here, don't you think that if it began from the inside and rust appeared on the outside that there would be a hole there? You must think before you make yourself sound silly.

"My warranty is 4 years (I'm OK there) and 80,000KM. I have 95,000KM on the car so GM has absolved themselves. Both the dealer and GM corporate have refused to assist me. 15,000KM is about 9,000 miles. I have spoken to the GM Customer "Satisfaction" Line and they will not assist me."

I must comment on this.00STS,your warrenty is 4 years or 80,000KM,WHICH EVER COMES FIRST.The 80,000KM came BEFORE the 4 years. Therefore,it does not cover squat anymore.I wonder how much custumer satisfaction laughed after they got off the phone with you.

Re: Rusty 2000 STS

Question, do Cadillac offer any anti-Corrosion guarantee???? Most Euro/Jap makers do.

My suggestion is sell up and buy a BMW, Infiniti, Lexus or Merc, the STS was never known for it's build quality, it was half the reason it got laughed out of Europe.

Im not sure. But whether they do or not it doesn't matter.Doors on cars just don't rot from the inside out, unless ofcourse you don't clean them.Jimster,Ive seen you around on these boards and you seem like you know what your talking about. Now come on,you don't keep your car clean, then it will rust.Even if your driving a Lexus,Benz,BMW or Infiniti.Especially living in Canada.Ive never had rusting problems with any of my Cadillacs.I can tell you now,my younger brother is 18.He drives a 1993 Eldorado. He lives in upstate New York and not a spec of rust anywhere. He even still has the orignal white paint on the underbody. He's the second owner and the first babied it as does he.Clean the car.It will not rot.But you can have optional rust proofing done if you like. From the looks of all my cars thats not necessary with a Caddy though. But then again,I did clean mine and take good care of them.Where'd you get the idea that STS's aren't built well? There built just the same as any other Caddy and there all good, long lasting luxery cars. This is with the exception of the '80s and the 4100.Junk junk junk engine. If you ask me Caddys are built very well.Mine have always run forever.

I'm sure you maintain your cars well, they last forever when you do that, even dodgy old FIATs.
But I've heard of far too many reoccuring problems with the STS to put the quality as well, high.

It's wierd though, I never cleaned the parts of the doors on the rotting Caddy, but never have had the doors rust on any of my cars- I clean the outside of the door and the door frame, but thats as far as it goes, never the backs of the door, which is why I find it interesting........

Ive only heard a few bad things about the STS's.Such as:
2000: Due to internal fluid leakage in some cars, rear-brake proportioning, ABS, traction control or stability control may not perform as designed. 2000: Inner tie-rod nuts on some cars are loose and can result in separation of tie rod, which can cause unexpected steering input. But all cars have their recalls. That don't make them poor cars.Such as BMW 3 Series: 2001: On some vehicles, tires could lose air suddenly, affecting vehicle control. 2001: Screws could fall into the parking-brake drum, reducing effectiveness or making screeching noises. 2001: Failure of engine-fan motor can cause electrical circuitry to overload and fail, causing fan to stop operating, with consequent engine overheating and possible engine damage. But there still awsome cars. And to add one more, the Lexus ES 300:Blower motor: The blower motor fails when water from the windshield leaks past a seal and into the motor. (1997)Dashboard lights: A defective EVAP (evaporative-emissions control) system charcoal canister causes the check-engine light to glow. Both new-car and emissions-controls warranties apply. (1997-98)Electrical problem: Using the wrong size cigar lighter or accessory plug causes the fuse to blow or damages the socket. (1997-98)Steering noise: Steering rack is noisy on early models. (1997)Sunroof/moonroof: Moonroof makes a throbbing noise when open unless revised deflector has been installed. (1997-98).But like I said, there all really good cars.Recalls is something just about every car has.Doesn't make them poor.

Re: Rusty 2000 STS

I Have A 1991 Seville That I Bought From Michigan And I Live In Arizona The Car Was In That Area For 13 Years And Their Is Barly A Little Rust Under All Four Corners Of The Doors. If You Are Worried About The Rust Than Have It Repainted. Do Not Expect Gm To Take Care Of Your Rust Problem The Rust Comes From Lack Of Washing Your Car And Not Getting The Salt Off
