Well that would make you foolish being you are a trend jumper. Lets look at the power difference of a b18c and a b18c5. b18c has a rough 180 compared to the c5 having 195. For the math impaired thats 15 hp. Sure the type r is a great car, its race ready and has one nice suspension setup, good for road racing, not a big deal for drag. The ITR is only a 14sec car. You can pick up a b18c for $2500 less, and make it spank a c5 with less than $2000. Do your homework, I would sell my civic and actually buy a type r before I would even consider a b18c5 swap.

Also civicHBsi91 is absolutley right. There is nothing wrong with d series motors, yes they are slow stock but can be made fast on a budget. The only reason I got rid of my d16z was b/c I fried and the shop that tore it apart just happened to have a b16 motor in the back that they were willing to part with cheaper than replacing the d.

Hmm, let's see how much it takes to make a civic a nice street burner.

Welp, this is an estimate on what I've spent so far. So much for my savings on a 2003 cobra. Just didn't have the money to throw out 35k at one time on a car. This one is paid for! It's all mine and not the banks.
Some of the items are for asthetic purposes only, why have speed and not look good too.

1998 civic EX 5 speed with 87k mile. $6000 Good deal on it.
Wings west body kit. $800
Paint and body work $1000
Edelbrock Turbo Kit $3100
Spec stage 3 clutch $310
Firdanza flywheel $275
Wheels/tires $900 Chromes hehe dare to be different
Tint $140
Guage pod with A/F guage, Oil pressure$150
Custom instrument cluster $80
Apexi World sport exhaust $400
Water pump, tensioner, timing belt $80 Off ebay
Zex dry N20 kit with purge kit $550
Optimum battery $100
Nology spark plug wires $120
AEM fuel rail,FPR, and filter $250-300 I forget
Unorthodox pully set $275
Strut bar $125
Tein Super sport suspension kit $900
Walboro 255lph fuel pump $100
Powerstop slotted rotors $130
AEM HP brake pads $50
CK headlamp/ tail lamps $500
damn extra bulbs $35
Alpine 9815 Head unit $400 ish.
Alpine R 6 1/2 front 6X9 rear $400 ish I think.
Cometic Head gasket $120
ARP headstuds $110

Few other things like mobile one oil and so forth but this comes out to $17,400.

So, for 17.5k I purchased a nice reliable little street setup that gets 30mpg when I drive normal and 26 when I don't. It's nothing that will run 10's at the drag strip but it's just a fun car to drive around. Maybe another 5 grand into the motor and some slicks then it'll hold it's own at the drag strip So for 22k I could have an easy 12 second car.

Better gas mileage
Much much cheaper insurance
cheaper property tax.
That's why I built up a civic.

Same BS (B-Series) bandwagon as B16, just with an added 0.2 liters.

Re: Re: Re: Re: how to make sohc go fast

the c5 is a swap to do for cool points only, but not to actually take on fast cars. I would know, I have its little sisteR, the B16B.

Turbo the sohc, build the internals, and up the boost to like 14psi and you'll have about 250-270hp. Even then you probably won't beat one from a stop because of the AWD (not 4WD, there's a difference), but could hang with on on the freeway. 14psi should get you into low 13's on the strip with street tires.

I took a WRX when I had my DX engine on nitrous from a 20mph roll, so if you're talking about those Subarus you could easily walk them on 9psi w/out internals (which would give you about 200-220hp). Remember the Subarus weigh as much as a Civic carrying 4 people, so mere hp numbers won't determine the winner.
