I don't like non-pushrod V-8's either but the Cobra DOHC motors are a lot more advanced domestic V-8 than a LS1. But i definetly agree an LS1 is the most advanced stock pushrod domestic motor.

actually i believe the most advanced chevy 350 would be the LS6 (true very close to the ls1 thogh I just wanted to be picky)

also what about the new 5.7 hemi that is quite an advanced pushrod design too.....

btw i'm curious why don't you guys like the DOHC V8?.....i would love to see more...can you guys imagine a 528 hemi with a DOHC head

For me it's not I don't like the DOHC motor. I dont like the Mod motors period. I speak for myself but I feel betrayed by Ford. Where there was a ton of customer support and aftermarket support for the 5.0 cars. Chevy steps up and makes the 350 thier only V-8 in Camaro's and Firebireds. They went to the SOHC Mod motor to get better gas mileage than the pushrod motors. Which is fine but they didn't also need to step down to a 281 in my opinion. They could make SOHC/DOHC 302 or even better 351's(I know they have 5.4 Mod Motors but I dont see any in a Mustang from Ford). The mod motor blocks are not very friendly to being hopped up as compared to the 5.0's and parts are a lot more $$$$

excuse my ignorance but what is a Mod motor?

anyway personally i love the DOHC engines especially the high displacement ones.....its just amazing the power output they have...true they are more expensive and the heads are much bigger....but IMo its worth it....

i mean just look at the Mach 1 engine and the cobra one(same stuff basically) they are the best mustang 4.6's ever

also i understand that curently the ultimate ford engine would be the 5.0 crate quad cam which i belive its DOHC

i just think its nice to combine the displacement of a big V8 with the high reving efficiency and tunability of a DOHC setup(at least as far as the head is concerned)

I feel the same way!
I do have to give Chevy props for sticking with a pushrod motor, I am a fan of the LS1 as well.

Neutrino, Mod or Modular is a term that ford uses to explain it's engine style. Modular is referring to the interchangeability of the parts of the motor between different vehicles. Mainly the F150, Navigator, Mark 8s, Mustangs, and Crown Vics all have some interchangeable parts. This was done for cost savings.

oh now i remember their modular concept thingi...thanks....

but i still don't understand why you guys hate the DOHC design so much when its obviously putting a lot more power to the ground

One day last week i had a chance to race a LS1 and all I have to say is dang those things are fast! He got the jump on me cuz my clutch was slipping, but he never pulled on me and I never pulled on him. If my clutch wasnt slipping, i might have got the jump on him an beat him by a hair. We got to 100 or so then hit traffic on a one lane road. But then we both turned into a gas station and talked for a few then he went his way as did I.

That is about all I see around here. I once had a 911 want to race me on the freeway. I laughed at him and told him not to waste his gas.
