Hi Guys

Sorry to hear the forum is slow. I'll be popping in now and then to help (electrical work is my strong subject ) However I'm also a moderator on another Jeep forum.

Later

Talking

Well Fella's it looks like you've been busy in my absence, I'm sorry to hear that you've moved onto Ford's (Found On Road Dead) from Jeep's (Cheep) oh well, bad taste is bad taste!

I am happy to say that 4 days after I fixed the horrible vibration problem my rad exploded! I am now up to $2500 in repairs, in less then 6 months. Does this 'Cheep' crap ever end and actually run smoothly for more then a week? Seriously you guys can't possibly praise these things after all the shit I've gone through with mine! I admit that I like the tough look of my Cherokee, but the mechanics are shit.

I can post a pic if your interested in purchasing it, but I'd have to get a pretty penny for it after all the new parts I've put in it only to have something else break down a week later!

Anyway, I hope I've done the job of getting you Cheep Geeks all wound up!

See you at the junk yard searching for more 'Cheep' parts!

sbrohman I have to admit I missed you and your crazy talk. I am starting to think that you are one of those completely negative people that wouldn't know a good thing if it came up and smacked you in the face.

Sure I would agree that if a jeep is abused or mistreated that it will need repair. If you rad all of a sudden goes (which more than likely means that you never washed your jeep and sprayed out your rad) you will have to replace that, but tell me what vehicle doesn't.

I was also thinking that you probably don't do a lot of preventative work on your jeep do you? Do you expect it to take care of it self. This is a automobile you know. Just a machine. It is much better than most and bested by very, very few.

Now I also wanted to ask who your does your repairs. If you are one of the people who are out there that talk big but don't know what a philips screw driver is than you deserve to spend big $$ on repairs. But if you do the repairs your self then you should know what is going to go and when it needs to be fixed before it costs you big $$$. If so, then that is your fault.

Now I know people who spend $2500 on wheels just to look good. They don't consider that to be a lot of money. I think it is a big chuck of cash so I have a couple of suggestions:

1- Learn how to do your repairs your self and do some preventive maintenance.

2- Don't bitch and complain to us when your jeep sucks. It is not our fault. I am willing to help you out but you have to help your self. Start by taking care of your jeep. maybe something simple like checking the air in your tires and if you are up for it an oil change every month. That would be a good start.

3- STOP buying your parts at the wreckers! In many cases you get what you pay for. Don't be so cheap. Go to Autozone. They will at least give you a warranty. If you go to a "BETTER" suv and tried to go to the wreckers for say a Toyota get ready to pay. and then get ready for some crappy stuff.

4- I hate to say this because it is entertaining but, stop trying to piss spooleffect off. He loves his jeep and you can stand yours. It is great to read everything you two write but it doesn't get you any closer to making friends in the Jeep word.

5- Sell it and move on. Give that Jeep to some one who will take care of it.

I know that this is a big list but I think you can handle it. Jeeps are tough and everyone knows it. That is why the SUV market exploded. Good luck

PS. My mustang is a classic and icon in the American car world. There are very few cars in the world that carry as much history and class as that car. With that said if you don't like it that is fine. Find something you do like and then you may be happy. "Each to there own" Just don't try to piss on everyone else's parade. It makes you look like a whiney bratt.

Good luck to you and I hope that you find a vehicle that works for you.

I have a 2000 xj with the same problem. My vibrations are from 47 to 53 mph. It does it in all the gears. So it is not the driveshaft, because the driveshaft spins at different rpms in different gears. What fixed your vibes sbrohman?

Re: Bad Vibration

I read the message I didn't see the final solution. I am having the problem also around 50mph when I am breaking. Has anyone found the solution?

Cheers

Its just old bushings and joints that have excess play in them. Most likely from the tie-rod. Since Jeeps are pretty light, the vibration in more notacible than in a heavier vehicle with the same suspension.

If it only happens when you break then get a new set of front rotors or have the current ones cut.

Good Luck

Whell your drive shafts are connected to the axle's which are connected to the wheels. They spin the same no matter what gears your in!....Your drive shaft or u-joints can cause a bump shimmy steering problem , don't count them out....

Re: Bad Vibration

I would tell sbrohman where to look for this vibration but I think I'll let him sell the Jeep and drive the Chevy. I had a vibration in my 96 Cherokee that was a tough one to find. It only occurred in 4th and 5th gears @ highway speeds above 45mph. I'll tell spooleffect if he's interested to know. Just e-mail me privately and I'll tell ya.

Hey Spooleffect...
Chillout! Obviously he's trying to learn by asking these questions! I know damn well that you didn't learn everything the day you bought you'r Cherokee! Don't scare him into getting rid of a great vehicle just because of a little hiccup!

I had major vibes (called deathwobble) in my front end after I lifted my 92 4.5" and threw on 31's.

I tried 3 times at 3 different tire places to cure it and finally at the third shop, the guy that did the alignment knew EXACTLY what i was talking about! whoohooo! He said that with the solid axle in the front, and control arms, you can't align the toe exactly to zero degrees. when he aligns jeeps (with or without a lift) with coils in the front, he gives the toe about a 1.5* toe-in and sometimes up to 3*.

tire-to-road friction will create drag and actually toe-out you'r front tires. When you hit a bump, you'r tires will fight to get back to a natural straight line (thus...deathwobble). with a small toe in, and drag, the tires will naturally find the straight line and not cause DW.

I have had almost 30,000 miles and NO deathwobble since!

Give it a shot and see what happens next time you have it aligned. Most shops will even give a free 90 day re-alignment if you have problems with the first alignment.

Good luck!
