LS1 wins hands down for power. 4.6 2V guys are strugging to make over 300 RWHP N/A, and you can basically bolt on heads/cam to an LS1 and make 400+ RWHP. The passenger floor hump sucks and they have a very steep windshield and it is hard to change plugs and headgaskets and whatnot, but it isn't too bad. If you're really going for all out speed, you could have a fox body into the 9's on pump gas for the price of either of those new.

As far as the cobra goes, since i am under 25 i cant afford the insurence. Have to pay for the insurence myself, and insurence for like an SVT is really expensive. Good thought though, actually considered it, but i wouldn't have any money left for gas.
And insurance on an SS is Much Less?

Hey DK...

Did you make that little spray w/ the bobble head? You know we were just talking about the LS1<LS6... you have a vette engine for the LS1 Alma Mater there. Just thought it was amusing...

Oh ya those ZL1's are rare and fast! I'd love to see one in person (saw one on ebay [phase 1 - 350hp] for about 85k...) they are mean!

Ford is all american. Not just mullet wearing Rednecks, but those Mullet-shaven white collar peeps too. And it was the first pony car of the 4 (Chevy, Pontiac, Mercury, Ford), and it is the last (I dunno about the T/A's though). At least Ford keeps its fanbase going, even with a V6 model...

100 years baby!

About the insurance. I guess insurance varies depending on where you live, but i know that I can't touch a cobra for much less than 800-900 a month depending on deductable. For an eighteen year old who works PART time and is going to school, that is a hell of a lot of money! Anyway, what is a fox body? Thanx for any info on that. 9's would be pretty impressive!

If all else fails, put a Corvette motor in it!

Fox, is the platform the Mustang was built on from 79-93. The Fox Body platform can also be found on the Fairmont, Futura, Mercury Zephyr, and Mercury Z-7.

.

.......Don't buy a fox body there are enough of those in the world.
Now if you could find a Bullitt with a reasonable price I would go for that. It's hardly any better then a GT and the Camaro SS will still outrun it, but you have a car that is really nice looking inside and out. The exhaust, stock on those cars sound really tough as well. Plus it will be a like a collectors item. If you can't find a Bullitt, well then Camaro SS.

And while handeling plays a part in my decision, i am truly buying the car for raw power (1/4 mile & 0-60). Am also considering a Firebird. If all things are equal (year model, miles, and features) which will perform better? (Am new to this, so if i made any mistakes i appologize).
If I were you I would just do more research on the cars and test drive your two choices then go from there.
