It was real metal, with big knobs and everything. I ran that through his first amp, a huge literally 30+ pound motherfugger that goes EXTREMELY loud, louder than any of the new systems the guys at future shop always try to show off.
Yes, they are making the new stereos have that metal looking plastic crap now. Mine is genuine metal, and like you said, heavy. I also agree with your point on how these stereos outperform 90% of todays crap. I wouldnt trade my Kenwood beast for any new home stereo system. Also, the older models were not filled up with a ton of extra shitty options and buttons that make it impossible to figure out the settings, and thats why the newer ones cost more, cause of more junk that you dont really need.

I think almost anyone using the @home cable internet service, will most likely be using the same cable modem

Im pretty sure they only used 2 kinds.
1.Terayon [The one you see]
2.Motorola, [which I think they stopped using now. When cable internet was first introduced to our area, @home (its Shaw cable here, but its still the @home service) was using Motorola modems, but it was really an unreliable service (it still is, imo) Now @home is calling the motorola ppl up and exchanging there modems for Terayon, and if you subscribe new, you get a terayon.]

Im just guessing that you are using @home, right G$?, I know heep is.

yeah, i have @home. but when i went to a friends house in hamilton he had a different white modem.

You think the service is unreliable?? I think it's really good now, i don't think our cable has gone down in like 1/2 a year
cause they did all that upgrading

hummerman: are they changing your e-mail?? cause right now mine is rogers@home. They are changing all the e-mail addresses to @rogers.com instead of @home.com
because of the "financial instability of excite@home" they say... i think they bought @home out??

are you gettin any of this?

The white modem you were refering to was the moterola modem. Your friend will probably contacted sooner or lator, to exchange it for a Terayon.

Also, about the reliability issue, it is not reliable where I live, but when it is working, its extreamly fast cause theres not much ppl that have it here. Upgrading is scheduled by shaw@home for early spring, but most likely I wont see any improvement, because I live at the edge of the coverage area, infact a few ppl that live around here had to argue to get them to set it up and put in a few repeaters to bring up the signal strength.

Im hearing ya G$. I havent been notified of any changes yet, not even any rumors.

EDIT: I wasnt thinking about it at first, but then I remembered that we use only a part of the @home network. Just the actual connection, cause Shaw Cable (based out of Winnipeg, but we have it here)has there own mail and webhosting services

for instance, my e-mail addy is [email protected] and my webspace is http://members.shaw.ca/HuMMerMan/

So I dont think about any of the excite / rogers shit will affect me.

No, that laptop [my school laptop ] is the IBM A20m 2628-21U

Its a yr old. 90% of all IBM laptops are IDENTICAL looking except for the model #.

Considering the 1st yr students that started our course this yr, most bought IBM's and if you didnt know better you couldnt tell the difference between my yr old one, and the new one at a glance.

Ive had good luck with the laptop. When I bought it, I bought a 3yr extended warentee. I doubled the ram myself and installed a mini-pci combo card with a nic card and modem in 1, plus a dvd drive. Ive ran it soo much, im surprised the hd isnt worn out

If your wondering what the laptop is, its a P3 500mhz, 256mb PC133, 6.4gb HDD, ATI Rage Pro -M1, 16bit sound, cd/dvd ultrabay drive, nic + modem, etc...

(Some of this stuff like the dvd, ram, and nic/modem combo are not original. they were added by me)
