Oh and she's a lease so dont ask about mods... The only thing I might do is add a real sub to the system, the audio is clean and has great mid bass, but there are some notes you just cant hit without a 12" sub

What's up James? You're about the only one on this board with a 2k4, everyone else here is driving 2k3 or below, too bad you can't mod due to the lease but at least you're riding in style.

You'll find out that a lot of people here aren't that fond of the 2k4 because of the Tooth (front emblem on the grill) that's what we call it and the rear end (some feel it is too fat).

Actually I didn't really care for them too much either at first but as I look at them more and test drove it, it grew on me, I think they look good in black and fine for a red colored car.

If I had to buy one it would be in white.

I only have one question, why didn't you go for the G35 Sedan instead?
Not that it is a hell of a lot better but it is RWD, the Max has more room and it is FWD (all that torque steer) but you can do more with RWD as far as getting more out of it powerwise to the ground.

I understand how many dont like the tooth. I didnt like it much at first either, and let me tell you what a pain in the as* it is to detail. To anyone who hasnt driven the new max and is judging it by its photo's your really missing out. I would highly suggest test driving it, I didnt like the photo's but once I saw it in person and drove it I knew I had to have it.

I'm a big guy 6'1" 280 lbs, I liked the amount of room in the Max. The G35 was smaller, and although I loved rear-wheel drive I never cared for its styling. The interior wasnt much more upscale either. I guess it came down to personal preference in the end.

BTW its rediculus how fast this thing is with the 6 Speed, I also own a 1971 Buick Skylark convertible with a built 350. It sounds crazy but I dont know which one is faster sometimes...

Anyway its good to meet some new maxima buds.

James

Hey Silver2k4... welcome to the board (look at me welcoming someone, this is like my 2nd post). So you lovin' the ride so far? What was your last car? I'd love to drive a 2004 and check it out... my GF's dad is a Nissan mechanic and he's always raving about em. I hear the drive-by-wire throttle is kinda wierd when you have a manual... I forget where I read that.

I'm not exactly won over by the style of the 04's, someone was comparing them to the Saturn Ion... I didnt really believe it, til I saw an Ion yesterday. Sadly enough, there is a real similarity in their shape.

Some might call my taste boring, but I'm a real fan of simple style. IMO, the 97-99 Maximas are the cleanest and nicest looking. I really disliked the 2000's when they came out, and when they gave em bug eyes and chromed tail lights in 2002... even worse. I will give Nissan big points for going simpler and cleaner with the 04.

Anyhoo... enough rambling.

To all my boi's here, you all are welcome, I'm just glad to have some new opinions and post/thread/comments to the board, every now and then the board goes dry and no one can think of anything to post, so your ideas maybe what we need when times run dry.

James, I applaud your decision to buy the 2k4, it is bigger and I think the interior is better than the G, they are fast and the ride is so much better with the independent suspension as opposed to mine with the beam.

the 97-99 Maximas are the cleanest and nicest looking.<quoted by 98

I agree the 97/99 are nicest looking, I found one here for sale but the guy wants too much for it (10,000) I looked it up on Kelley Bluebook with the mileage he has, plus it was in an accident, it was worth about 6700 but he thinks that he can sell it at that price.

I told him I have a 2k and I look it up on KBB and with it's mileage it is worth a little over 10K but he still wouldn't budge.

To all of you Good luck with your car and all of you enjoy the ride.

I've heard the same thing about the drive by wire having "issues" from some of the automagazines, but they were working with preproduction models. I havent had any problems with it, I just wish the clutch werent so heavy .

My last car was a 2001 Eclipse GT auto. It sucked, I bought it on a whim and hated it after the third month. It was slow (even though it was a 200hp V6), and it leaked. Glad to be out of it.

I agree with the 97-99's being sweet looking. I didnt like the 2k3's crome tails, a buddy at the office has a 2k3 GLE and I love it from the front and side but the tails kill me. And about the saturn ION comments, I know I see how it can look that way from some angles, but just like any Maxima it will grown on even the most stubborn haters I'm sure. I wasnt wild about the front end when i bought it, but I drove it and couldnt be talked out of buying her....

Take care,
James

Yeah, I still think I paid a LITTLE more than I should have for my 98 with 82k miles on it ($9500), but at the time it was a fair price based on the listed retail price on KBB.com (I think about $10,500). The condition of the car really spoke for itself though, and the family Nissan mechanic approved of it, so I scooped it up. Definately no regrets.

When I was in the process of looking for my car, I set up a custom link for Autotrader.com so it would do a detailed search for exactly what I was looking for with one click. Still have it and decided to click it today. Basically found EXACTLY what I was looking for 7 months ago, but with a few more miles than I'd like. 99 SE, totally loaded, 5-speed, black on black, seemingly good shape (only one front pic) but with 105k miles. Here's the link if anyone's interested:

99 SE For Sale

For about 20 minutes I thought to myself "well, only has 14k more miles than mine, is a year newer, plus has leather, homelink, Bose, digital climate control and factory sunroof... maybe I should trade up."

But then a voice of reason stepped in and now I'm thinking "well, mine has 14k less miles, I know it's in great shape, 99's and 98's are basically identical, I'd have to swap ALL my mods over, I could honestly give a damm about leather (cloth grips better anyways) I like my ASC aftermarket roof better than the factory one (one-touch operation, auto-close feature) Bose don't impress me, and I'd probably end up losing a good amount of cash on the deal when I sell my 98. Screw it."

SO, for anyone in the Chicago area looking for a nice 99 Max with slightly high miles... have at it.

Central IL, eh? Where at? You might be the first IL Maxima person I've met.

Stuck at work right now... 1.5 hours to go. Looks like some kinda nice day out there. Sux to be stuck inside. Ah well... gotta pay for the car somehow.

I live near Peoria, a small town called Canton. I've got the only modded max in town. So i'm pretty original here.

if I were to for some reason get an awesome deal on a 2002-03 SE 6-speed (and it would have to be awesome for me to give up my beautiful 98) then yes... absolutely first thing that would be done is to put 2000-01 SE tail lights on it.

I love the HID and all... but those bug lenses and that big gawdy grille... so ugly. This is IMO, of course. Not to be hatin' on 02-03's. If I could get a 3.5 and a 6-speed in my 98... it would pretty much be the perfect car. Well, I'm sure it COULD be done, but for way less cash I could just turbo the hell out of my 3.0, which sounds like more fun anyways.

You are lucky. You have low miles for a 95. Has it been crashed?
