Which would be a better "Sleeper?"

Yes..Do not rattle can unless you have rust and no other option. If you rattle can it you will have high and low spots and will cost more money to sand it down even when it comes time for real paint. Please dont primer it unless you start seeing rust. Yes regular primer will soak up water. Spray can primer may not hold the paint as well. I see so many cars that are so half assed on body work. Its sad. Do it right man.

I think shitty stock paint is sleeper, but primer is just ghetto.
I'm not to fool anyone right now.. I've got a primered fender, 1 clear 1 stock corner light, and a white headlight filler piece.. Watin' for paint though.

There is surface rust on EVERY DAMN quarter panel. I have to do this before it gets worse and maybe makes holes.
Some people around me think that primer is too much..."its just a crappy civic."

Everybody says do it right...what is the right way to do it? sand it down with VERY fine grit, smooth with bondo, spray primer, and then sealant?

is that the way? is there a better way?

and yes, money is an object. I cant afford a full paint job right now, this will have to last a while.

hmm.... I suppose I just don't believe in "sleeper"... In my opinion there is only "Nice" "Ugly" "Stock Looking" or "Bad Paint Job"

My cousin has been driving around with his car in primer for a year now with no rust problems of any kind.
Although I personally wouldn't make an effort to fix the problem until I was ready to sand, primer, and paint the whole car.

Ok..sleeper style is having a beige HB,tan interior and a phat engine on factory style alloys. But as for "doing it right" ask your self these questions.

Will I drive this everyday?
Will I own this car for a few years?
Does my car get parked where its prone to dings and dents?
Does it see snow/salt?

If you drive every day Id wouldnt spend more than a grand on paint. If its prone to getting dents Id just spend enough to get the big dents and surface rust taking care of. Doing this would probably cost from $500-$800 for a decent paint job. It its gonna see snow and salt and possibly more rust Id just suggest getting a book about painting/prep work and do most all the work your self and bring it to a Macco or somewhere cheap and I wouldnt spend more than $500 or so. If all you cann afford is primer do the body work and ask a body shop how much it would cost for primer sealer. I really would not suggest using spray can primer unless your using just for lil spots and not a whole car. When sanding the paint becarefull not to use too rough of a grit or paper as it will leave scratches in the paint. As for the guy saying hes bro or friends primer car never rusted is probably cause they are from a area that doesnt have much moisture in the air and doesn rain much. Id be willing to bet if you sanded some of the primer off that there would be rust under neath the primer

ill probably just use spray primer cause i only plan on getting spots, and not doing the whole car...
Should i spray a few light coats of can primer, then cover it with primer sealant?

Never done this before...just want to be sure.
