Re: Project Evolution: 1/24 Peugeot T16 EVO 2 - Corse '86 - #5 B.Saby

I mounted the modified inlet manifold, airbox, exhaust manifold, turbocharger and bigger brakes off Tamiya's 405 T16.

Re: Project Evolution: 1/24 Peugeot T16 EVO 2 - Corse '86 - #5 B.Saby

some more progress:

I finally made the connection bar between the inner rear wheel arches.
The modified evo 2 rollcage will rest on those strut towers. Evo2 exhaust and some more engine equipment are still missing.

Rear drivetrain and suspension joint with front differential, steering and suspension assembly.
The front remained mainly unchanged from Evo1 to Evo2, I just added the bigger brakes that I had mentinoned before.

custom exhaust and... whatever that tank is.

Driver's compartment - no modifications here. Decals yet to come.

Cockpit and engine bay 90% completed, however the rear half of the rollcage still needs to be changed to Evo 2.

Evo2 (left side, with wrong rollcage) vs. Evo1 (my Team Gauloises build here)

Thank you.

Now fabricating the rear section of the rollcage, using styrene rods and lots of superglue:

Rollcage completed.

The side bars then required some additional modding of the shell:

It's a straight fit now.

The difference to Evo1 (on the left) becomes more and more apparent.

Re: Project Evolution: 1/24 Peugeot T16 EVO 2 - Corse '86 - #5 B.Saby

The rear wheel arches needed to be widened a bit to match the bigger wheels.

Minor modifications from Evo1 to Evo2 (spot the difference...).

Air intake ducting - modified from Evo1 to Evo2.

Decals are a mix of Tamiya and Heller decals. The Tamiya ones are way better.

Et voilą!

Re: Project Evolution: 1/24 Peugeot T16 EVO 2 - Corse '86 - #5 B.Saby

The final stages now require some amount of scratch building and/or improvisation.

Underbody Skidplates and Diffusor
I am not going to 100% replicate those, but still, for Evo2, the skidplates have to be larger. Plus, there is a whole new diffusor in the rear.
Quite interesting refpic...

Again, I am using parts off a Tamiya 406 T16 Grand Raid (right side)

The diffuser has to be scratch built. I am using material from a pillbox.

The resin diffusor also shown is from Renaissance and hereby only used as a reference.
It will some day be needed in yet another 205 T16 project...

Re: Project Evolution: 1/24 Peugeot T16 EVO 2 - Corse '86 - #5 B.Saby

I stupidly damaged the skidplate when trying to cut it to size: Some square milimeters simply broke away (see lower left).

However I was able to fix that with tape and putty. Actually I was surprised that the repair worked so well.

Side windows
Evo2 features large air intakes that did not exist on the Evo1. I also cut those out of the side windows off a 405 T16 GR and applied them to some clear film that once beloged to some sweets packing.

Just some WIP shots (about 75% finished) to show where this is going

Re: Project Evolution: 1/24 Peugeot T16 EVO 2 - Corse '86 - #5 B.Saby

I chose to replicate the Evo2's aerodynamic side skirts on the underbody.
A plastic spoon came in handy.

Work on the rear diffusor continues, too

The PE front grille needs to be much larger on the Evo2.
I customized it using two Evo1 grilles (had a spare one).

Re: Project Evolution: 1/24 Peugeot T16 EVO 2 - Corse '86 - #5 B.Saby

Skidplate and diffusor almost completed.

Front canard wings completed.
Base was the Heller Evo2 front wing, which features correctly shaped canards, but otherwise lacks some detail. The side flaps were added from scratch.

So if we look under the hood, what's actually missing by now?
Evo2 oil cooler and rear brake cooling:

Still WIP:

(I used a decal saying "speedline" to write something like "setrab")
