The button you are talking about is incase your brakes fail and lock up, because it's not SUPOSED to shift out of park unless the brake is held in, it's incase you need to have it towed.

It could have been added aftermarket, but they did not come from the factory with keyless remote.

Mine has remote unlock/lock/trunk/start. But I had to install it.

Re: may be buying a 93....

Hey guys I just joined this forum, but I've been a Maxima owner for almost two years now. Just wanted to clarify something that I read here:

The little red button on the bottom of your shifter is for overdrive.

get a cheap clicker from good ole www.ebay.com search for Maxima keyelss remote or something to that effect.

Okay...This isn't at all correct. 89-94 Maximas all have stock securities and alarms. The GXEs have a keyless entry right on the door handles. All SEs did not even come with this option. This is for all OEM alarms:

The 89-94 SE alarm system is turned on by locking the doors and shutting them. All four doors and the trunk must be shut for the alarm to activate. The "securty" light on the dashboard will turn on until all doors are shut. When the doors are shut, it was stay on for 60 seconds. When it shuts off, the alarm is activated, but not until it shuts off.
Do deactivate the alarm, you must unlock the car with the key.
The alarm can only be triggered while it is activated and is triggered by beaking a window, hitting the car hard enough, or by unlocking the doors without the key (ie. reaching in and unlocking the doors from the inside). Also, if you open the trunk while the alarm is activated, if you leave it open for too long (I'm not quite sure on the actual time limit) the alarm will sound. There are no OEM keychain keyless entry systems for 89-94 Maxima, but you can have an aftermarket one installed. Hope that clarifies this!

I can not vouch on the keyless entry fobs or not. I was thinking some did come with it but maybe not. Now, for the alarm, there are no glass break sensors or shock sensors on ANY Nissan. You can beat the snot out the car until the cows come home and it will never make a sound unless you trip a pin switch in the trunk, hood, or doors. If it does, then it is aftermarket. I have sold Automate add on alarms from DEI at Nissan dealers. You'd never know they are there until you set one off. It is completely different than the OEM alarm because it does have impact sensors. But, you arm it just like the OEM alarm so you may or may not have a remote.

I actualy assumed that part about the sensors because I left my front hood open and when I shut it, it triggered the alarm. Also, my alarm has triggered after leaving the trunk open for too long when the alarm is activated.

This could very well be the case with my car. I am the fourth owner and the sales receipt is long gone. Were these alarms offered to Maximas back in 1994? Also, are these alarms installed in the same place as OEM ones?
