Oh man dont get me started

Man dont get me started about AMT! I F****** hate them there platic is cheap, they have a very, very low detail. I havent put one together in like 6 years and dont plan to! They just seem cheaply made to me.Now Revell theres a brand they, have flaws in them, like the moter for the golf and the way it goes it (I hate it) but some are cool and go together perfect like the Viper,Integra, both Civic's, Pennzoil Drag car and so on.

Well... today i received this:

Until now all of my kits were from tamiya, this is my first revell kit and i'm quite impressed with it. I can't say anything about AMT kits because i never had one, but from what i see on the internet the revell kits (the new ones) seem better.
Oh! And the F&F diecast are great too.

Revell all the way.I have 4 AMT Vettes and 1 thing I noticed was that they didn't have gauge decals you have to paint the faces.

Am I the only one that like AMT and the old AMT kits, the ones with metal axels for the wheels?
Anybody can build a Tamiya, new Revell and some new AMT and make them look good. But you need some skills and to do some work to build a old AMT and make them look good.
Thatīs why I like the old AMT, you realy need to think and do some work to make it look good, but if you do and have the skills for it you can make it look realy good. Not saying that I got the skills but I think my '65 GTO looks good, build from one of the old AMT.

And I donīt think you should talk so much about how bad every kit by AMT and Revell is, at least they are doing some thing, I canīt see most of you doing anything better. Be glad we got some thing, good or bad itīs better then nothing.

I don't grudge against either but I do think Revell are better, not only because it detail but because Monogram is part of Revell, I love Monogram kits, the 3 that my friend and I have done so far are great, 59 Caddy, 59 Vette & an old Cobra.

Revell.......The only good kits from AMT are their sci-fi kits. They're not too good at making car kits IMO

I like AMT AND Revell. I don't have a problem as long as I ask about a particular kit first. Here's some AMT models done by me. I have no complaints.:bandit:
AMT '69 Mercury Cougar Eliminator

AMT 1965 Pontiac 2+2

I enjoy a good challenge to see if I can handle it. I didn't have Tamiya and Aoshima when I was younger; Revell, MPC,AMT, and Monogram was it. I had no choice but to learn the hard way and now I have the ability to build almost anything set in front of me. Just showing another point of view, don't think I'm some high and mighty model jerk, I'm just a regular jerk!

I have experiences with both Revell and AMT and I would say that overall, Revell (and Monogram) are better in quality. The parts from a Revell kit looked more detail and in scale whereas the ones from AMT are more simplified and some looked oversized. However, I think AMT instructions for painting is a lot detailed than Revell.

Cheers

James

What is it with MODELLERS now, are we getting to bloody lazy or is it that we are lacking in skills NO WE ARE GETTING LAZY. or bloody fussy when i started amt, revell and even the great and mighty Tamiya were all kits you had to put some effort in them. Now when i just feel like building a kit quickly i get a Tamiya kit. But i want a challenge to make a kit to look fantastic, i will put some effort into them even tamiya kits by wireing up motors flocking interior and adding seatbelts just for a start
what great feeling when you get a bad kit and put some work in it and it turns out great. To me i look at a kit and think what can i make out of this. just check out my site and see what theoldone and myself do with some of the Revell and AMT kits it may change some minds on kits

Ahem, AMT does lousy engines? Excuse me while I BURST OUT LAUGHING!!!!

If you take a look in any new-tool muscle car or classic kit they've released in the past five years you'll see near Enthusiast Series levels of detail. Good example; 1962 Pontiac 421SD Catalina. Not only is it absurdly accurate. but it has finely molded in spark plugs, great Rochester 4barrel carbs, molded separate plastic fuel lines to said carbs (never seen that in a Tamiya 1/24th scale kit) lovely triply Y headers, and accurate header cutouts for the exhaust. This is lousy detail?
