ha, what kinda shop do you run! lol

Not sure if my motor 'needs' it really but I mean it'd help for sure. I think they sell em for maybe $600? I could be wrong... Its just crossed my mind as i'll have the grand am for about another 2 years (or less, if it dies, explodes.., trans goes out from my abusive driving {good thing I switched to Synthetic lol})

The only things wrong at the moment are as follows lol....

some gas tank sensor, emissions w/e is out and the SES light comes off/on usually it'll be always on, sometimes off in like cold/morning starts it'll be fine then pop on later

Some sorta valve train components are tapping or doing a sync motion of noise, I can only say it sounds like metal on metal, like if the camshaft was tapping against somthing

My AC is prob going to go out this summer lol, either the clutch or bearings inside the unit are worn or going out.. Im surprised Ive had it this long and at one point thought it was my belt tensioner

I have a Auto Tech-Machine shop.
For years I worked by myself in a shabby pole barn(w/mostly gravel flooring) working on everything and anything. And I done machining in another building, which kinda sucked running back and forth the 1/2 mile.
Saved my $$$$ and built a nicer-bigger shop. It even has heat and AC. Im not a stealership but I usualy have 8-10 automobiles for sale, no certain makes/models.

If you were only worried about you GA lasting a couple years, Id just pull the heads and have them machined. Install new gaskets and lifters, if thats whats making the ticking, and call it a day.

On your emissions probly your O2s or Cat. Converter is done.
Do they still do saftey inspections in Texas ??

And with your AC, its probly cheaper to fix the problem(s) rather then buy a new unit, they's pricey ! Though you can find remanufactured one's for cheaper. I dont think I could live that far south without AC, to damn Hot !

Here are some pre SE pics, the trouble spots.
The fender wells inner - outter were about gone from rust. The last pic is of the roof where the top and bottom body halves were welded together.

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

ya.. the AC only does this when it's turned on... makes the motor a bit sluggish too.

my radio told me the other day on it's display... "eb0" lol then it told me what the time was lolol

also, my 1 and 2 fan setting dont work anymore as of today... so it can either be melt in the seat or icey cold.... bs lol

what I NEED to do is a coolant flush and refill , I feel a mega hot summer coming up.. I havent done a flush in a while, I'm already sitting at 220-225F with my 180 stat. I have to get a new hose too, the one right in front on the left... connects to that fitting that comes out from under the UIM or w/e, weird curl hose.. its leaking a little bit when I do WOT I think...

Yeah Gir sugar will metal and cause the valves to stick. Thus bending/breaking things, what an idiot!!

Man I just noticed I havent been here for almost a week... it sure has been a long hot week for May.

We did get a few new smileys, and I think they removed a few also.

Everyone have a great and safe Memorial day weekend!
I know I wont!!

Oh my sig! I used Photoshop then I switched into Image ready to make the animation portions of it. The biggest pain was getting the letters to look right as they "come on" as I look at it.

Hope everyone had a good Memorial day weekend!

That is fine I have it rigged up for now, using a piece of water pipe and muffler clamps. Just can't drive like a bat out of hell.

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

BTW had the fuel pump go out in the wife's Silverado. The tow was not bad. $65.00, Then the labor was $200 and the pump was around $400, plus the tax. If I could have done the fuel pump I would have. I knew that it would have been a back killer. When it rains it pours, and at the most inopportune time.

Yeah they probly installed a whole new fuel unit with new float and everything. They are pricey !!
What I hate is most pumps go out with at least a half tank ,if not full. In a truck like that you'd need 5-6 5 gallon cans around.

Yea back to the grind tomorrow.

You were out late, or you got up early.

Either way will get you rather drunk. Though if you're drinking of a morning, you'll usualy crash by 10-11 am.

Well my weeks off to a good start.
Had tornadoes watches to the south earlier.... hope they stay there!
