Damn Moths!

I undercoat, I normal coat and then I finished a gloss. Now after years of doing this hobby, this has never happened. I damn moth came out of no where and smacked into the wet door! I was not impressed. I hope cutting this back with compound will get rid of it. Anyone else know of a better option.

Luckily for the moth he got away!

That moth is bad

I think compound could fix it. BTW, what are those 2 pale/yellow spots on the door?

what car is it? because you can put compund on it to hide the handle, and get rid of what that pesky moth did.

I am more interested to know why you're painting the door while it is still attached to the parts tree....how are you going to remove it without damaging the paint in some way?

You should be able to save it. You said that you put a 'gloss' coat on so I assume you mean a clear gloss of some sort. You could try the compound, but I expect you'll have to go to sandpaper of some sort. If you work at the area slowly with some 600 grit, you should be able to get out all traces of the evil moth. You'll probably need to use some finer papers on the patch to smooth it out again, but after that another coat or two of clear gloss should blend everything back together.


Worst case.... strip the entire door and redo it.

Yah, the sprue on the bottom right is on the front surface on the door........ When you remove it, you'll get the color it was molded in....

Anyways, did you kill the moth afterwards??? Just wondering....

Well where it is atached to the sprue will be painted a different colour (it is only attached at the top of the door, not the bottom. I cut that off.). If it was all white it would be off the sprue. I keep it on to make painting easier.

You will be all happy to know that the marks came off with compound. Plus the decals went over the affected areas.

Looks like a nice mothprint. Maybe its the new MPC decal...Moth Products Company. Its the new import craze right?
