Could I turbo a 86 rx-7 gxl and would it work well?

I need to know if 86 rx-7s are good cars for reliability and maintenance. I want to know if they have any problems. Could you turbo a 86 rx-7 to where it would be relatively cheap and if it would work well.

the 1986 RX-7's have a 9.4:1 comp ratio, which is kinda high to be turbo charging. Consider maybe a small amount of boost from a small supercharger. Either way, add lots of fuel.

86s are very reliable cars once you get everything working. i don't see the logic in putting a turbo on it because it would become a money pit. once you put a turbo on a rotary, all hell breaks loose in both good and bad ways. if you want more power out of it, i'd say get it street/bridgeported with all bolt on mods. that would be a kick ass n/a rotary.

you could make any 6 port, or non-turbo, rotary just about turboII fast by converting it to carburated rather than fuel injection. it is very easy to do and it eliminates a lot, and i mean a lot of clutter and weight from under the hood.
Many companies make the kit for about $500

Hmm. Although the carb idea is cool, doesnt you need a really special carb if you wanna turbo a car? I'd be all about getting that then turboing my GXL.. turbo carbed 2nd gen former N/A. Now that would be badass.
