General Info on a Caprice Lt1

Hi all! This is my 1st post here at AF. I've been lerking for a while and love this place.

Anyway, I have 3 very general questions about the 94-96 Caprive LT1's. Its time to give up my curent 89 Cutlas Ciera International and i thought I would take a step up in performance and safety. The only things i'm wondering about are
1) what kind of performance I can expect (0-60 1/4 mile)

2) what kind of gas mileage they get (particularly on the highway where i do most of my driving) and

3) what the life of these cars are and if there are any major trouble spots (i've heard these cars can go 200,000-300,000 miles)

I know this is a tall order, but i fugure the best way to find these things out is to ask people who actually own this kind of car (Or similar Buick Roadmaster ).

Anyway, thanks in advance, and any information at all would be greatly apreciated

bone stock the car will do a 15.2 et. with a few cheap mods, 14.4. gas mileage is 18 to 25 mpg depending on how you drive. yes, they will go high miles easy! check out www.goissca.org and you will find all the impala, caprice, roadmaster and cadillac guys there. there is even a wagon section, and with rims and lowering, those are pretty cool too!

Re: General Info on a Caprice Lt1

hi.
the weak spot is the 4l60e (electronic version of the 700r4). It's OK for the babyLT1 motor as it is not as powerful but with the LT1 they do go bad.
B-bodies came in with wrong rear end gaskets that do not allow oil to flow out to the outer bearings.
The optispark (distributor) can be a pita to change and is costly.
Other than that they are great cars. I'm getting terrible gas milage due to exhaust leaks (also I'd mention that those cars are prone to get exhaust manifolds leaks from loose or most of the time broken bolts at the heads).
Also your driving style will affect the MPG tremendoucly. You stop on it and it goes fast but so does your fuel. Also don't let the fuel get below 1/4 tank, these fuel pumps are another weak spot. Sometimes the gas gauges go screwy. Hm, they are awesome cars nonetheless.
I don't have 0-60 figures but when I got my '94 9c1 (police package) it had K&N FPIK and 2 chamber flowmasters. I ran 14.7 @92. That was my 1st time ever at the track. The temp was rather cool. It was a september night.
