So I took off that Y pipe...
Hey all,
Took off that tiny Y pipe thing from the end of the intake... Its a totally different car now. Its not really faster, but the sounds it makes now sound so crazy. Seems like it pulls a litte bit harder to redline now, before taking the pipe off, redlining it was pointless. I took it up the local twisty road and it seemed like I had more power than I used to, especially on the straights in 4th and 5th gear. It might just be in my head tho. Anyways, it was a cool free mod. I took someone for a ride in my car for the first time and they thought I had an intake... Its totally worth it, just for the sound. It would be cool to see a stock dyno and a dyno right after taking off the pipe. I wonder if it would be noticeably changed at all. -Grendel |

I dunno if its only on S13s...
There is the airbox where the filter is, and on the right side of it (looking from the front of the car) there is a pipe shaped like a "y" It sucks air from a hole in the front and a hole below. Taking it off makes it suck from one big hole in the side of the airbox... -Grendel |

grendel go on ebay and get yourself a budget intake.
All you need is one of those generic cone filters, a couple clamps, and a MAF adapter. I see sets with all of that in it go on ebay for about 10-15bucks.... Not a bad little mod for just replacing the airfilter basically. |

good job grendel, when i did that i liked it too. there is a very lil hp increase, and it does sound great. and there's nothing harmful about it at all.... if you want to make it a lil louder for basically free and you don't worry about losing your stock intake system, take the thing that connects to the outside part of your filter (the outside part of the air box) and cut part of it off, so there's just enough part to hold the filter to the air box. it'll be louder and you'll see about the same performance gain as you did stock vs. taking off that ypipe.
dont get a cold air intake off ebay, those suck. if you get an intake get an injen with extension, or make your own with an extension. if it doesn't have the extension, it sucks up the hot air from the engine. if you decide to keep your stock air piping go get a k&n air filter for your stock, you'll def notice a lil increase in that too. and the best (price & performance) mod would be to get off that mechanical fan and put in an electric, they go for about $80 and they take off a very good amount of 0-60 time.

also if you wanna make it a lil louder yet, take off the sound resonator. it's the bottom part that used to be connected to your y-pipe.

I think there are two screws... just remove them and pull on the part till it comes out. You might have to remove the screw holding the airbox down and pull up on that to make room to remove the y pipe. It should be really easy to find. -Grendel |

here's a pic... somewhat
take out the bottom part that goes underneath the car. you could take out everything underneath the air box.
