what offset for 17x8 wheels on 95 SE?

Anyone who knows what offset(s) are ok with 17x8 wheels on a 95 240SX SE? Or how can I determine what offsets will work? What things do I need to consider...rubbing, stress, suspension geometry, etc? Anyone that has this size and at what offset? Real world experiences? Etc.

Cmon, somebody must know. I've been to dozens of websites and no one ever explains how to determine the NEEDED offset for a particular situation, they just say "it's the distance from the center of the wheel" and "you need to have the right offset or it can cause problems". Well duh, that's great, but how do I figure out WHAT offset I need? And why do some manufacturers have different offsets than others for the same size wheel? And at what point (mm difference) does the offset start to become a problem?

For example, as near as I can figure (based on what I found with google), the 95 240sx SE wheel is 16x6.5 and has a 35mm offset. So if I go to a 17x8 wheel does it have to be 35mm also? Or can I get away with 32mm or 38mm? And what is the real world difference between the three?

For a 95 240sx SE model
The bolt pattern would have to be 5x114.3 (5x4.5)
OFFSET... what your assking for is 30/50
and Rim Size up to 18x8.0

hope this helps

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. So you're saying the normal offset range is 30-50mm? And for an 8" wheel 45mm is needed? How can I compute this myself? I'm even more confused now, because I found one website that says the stock offset is 35 (16x7 wheel), another that said 40 (16x6.5 wheel), and another that said 42 (14x6 wheel). I can rule out the 14x6 obviously, but I didn't know there was 2 different 16" wheels?

Alright, well since the one guy who cared to answer my question has left, can anyone answer these instead?

What is the CORRECT stock wheel size and offset for a 95 240SX SE?

and

What is the MAX wheel size and offset for an S14 (without clearance problems)?

i told you already what the MAX was:apoke:

For the SE model:
Offset is 30/50 (so 50 being MAX ok)
Rim Size is up to 18x8.0 (this is MAX if you dont want any rubbing or problems)

AND if you have the SE wheels they are 16x6.5 and i think the 35mm offset you stated in your second post is correct.
Also if you buy an 8" wheel no one every said your limited to 45mm only, you can get 50mm its going to stick out though but if thats what your looking for thats great. Im not an expert on wheels but as far as i know this is it

good luck...:sun: :flash:

Well if a 50mm offset sticks out too much then doesn't that mean 50 is beyond the max?

And since I was getting conflicting answers on what the stock offset is I spent the last 2 days searching all over the net for a definitive answer and finally found an official press release for the 1997 240SX which says this:

Wheel Size/Offset
Base: 6.0JJ x 15/40 mm
SE/LE: 6.5JJ x 16/40 mm

Tire Size
Base: P195/60HR15
SE/LE: P205/55VR16

I still don't know how to determine what offset is best for my desired wheel (17x8), but with enough searching I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. Thanks for trying though.

Here's another little factoid in the press release that I found pretty funny:

WEIGHTS & CAPACITIES
Seating Capacity - 5
